A curious downstairs space with solid drinks and solid food and which is exactly the kind of Lord of the Rings Shire den youd want to pop into on a chilly night to catch up with your buddies. If you dont expect more you wont be disappointed and if youre looking for just that, you will find yourself in heaven.

Proper traditional Irish NYC pub with horse racing and various sports on TV.Really great Guinness, highly recommended.(Didnt eat so cant comment on food).

Went in last night, bartender was talking to customers at the bar, waited 5 minutes and she never even looked in my direction although she was 3 feet away. I left.

Basic friendly neighborhood joint. Hasnt changed much since the 80s except for the TVs but that may be the reason patrons return. Could use some sprucing up. Bartender is always friendly and helpful.

I came in, had a Guinness, and the staff let me sit quietly and enjoy my beer in peace. No fuss, nice quiet drink during the day. Very enjoyable.

Excellent inconspicuous hideaway with high quality wholesale food and drinks. As well as Irish bartenders and authentic homely feel. Shepherds pie and cold Narragansett are amongst best in City.

Emerald Inn is my favorite Irish Pub on the Upper West Side. We have been visiting here since they were in their first location on Columbus Avenue. It has now been over 10 years since they moved to the current location. The food has always been solid, and the service at the bar has never been anything short of fantastic! I couldnt recommend Emerald Inn highly enough if youre looking for a nice Irish Pub on the UWS.

A classic New York Irish pub. Family owned for 4 generations. My Dad was a regular here (when it was on Columbus) when he was with FDNY. Maura is the best bartender. Been coming here for years, love it.

I live just around the corner and was hoping to find a friendly local bar. I was in the mood for a burger and read good reviews about this place. To be fair the burger was pretty good, but the service was the most unfriendly I have experienced in New York. The woman behind the bar barely acknowledged me, didnt ask what I wanted to drink, and said nothing when I ordered food. To ask if I wanted a second drink she just tapped the glass. She said 4 words to me all night. She was friendly and chatty to the regulars, so she was not just having a bad day, but obviously cant be bothered with new customers . I paid the check with a credit card and was surprised to see a 3% credit card surcharge. There is nothing on the menu about this, and no mention was made to me to give me the option to pay in cash. Besides it is illegal in New York to add a credit card fee state without clearly showing the different prices.

Great Irish pub right near Amsterdam. Had fun playing pool and the food was great too. We only had the chicken fingers and a cup of chili but both were great. Very friendly bartender as well. Will be back when I’m in the area.

A true gem of the upper west side with the friendliest and most supportive staff; I lost my engagement ring and they helped me with the mission to find it and I will forever be grateful for the support!

Less lively than I expected for a Saturday night. Ordered the buffalo wings, as the menu claimed them to be the best in upper west side. They tasted alright, but were nothing Id write home about. The biggest plus was the draught Guinness - smooth and properly poured. The proprietor was cheery enough to liven up our night a little.

I was exploring the neighborhood with my friend Dorothy and some new friends in the area directed us to pop in here for a magical beer! :) Its a nice local bar for our Upper West neighborhood! Got TVs for sports and full dining experience option as well. Ill try some food one of these next times around. John behind the bar is a nice gentleman whom is very personable with the local patrons! Good times in the Land of Oz!

Great cosy bar with friendly staff and good beer choices. I usually go for trivia Wednesday night that lasts from 8pm - 10pm and is a lot of fun - prizes are a basket of fries for second place and wings for first place. Usually a pretty relaxed atmosphere.

I frequented this place when it was Allstate Cafe. This was my first time at Emerald Inn, I came to play pool last night and it was too early, only one patron was there. I sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender. His name is John and he was very nice and made me feel comfortable. The wine was good and the service was great. People started to show up as time went on. I ordered french fries and I got a huge basket of them and they were delicious. This is an Irish bar and Ì liked it a lot. There used to be a lot of Irish bars around here, but no more, so Im really happy that this one is here. Emerald Inn used to be on Columbus Avenue 10 years ago, and I liked it then too.The pool table is small and theres not enough room to make some shots but, its pretty nice. The people are nice there. Ill be back.

Was relying on the other reviews but unfortunately I found the food and prices a bit disappointing. A $17 fish and chips should not have a mediocre fish with a suspiciously thick brown and old looking batter.The Mexican kitchen staff make a superb guacamole, but the chips to go with them were quite bad.

Was visiting NYC recently, and my wife and I wanted to go to a bar. Nothing fancy, not really a restaurant, just a bar--this place delivered. A couple of beers, some decent onion rings and a volume level inside the establishment that allows for normal conversation. Recommended.

The best Shepards pie Ive had in a long time. Plenty of beer to choose from. Small quiet pub on west 72nd street, good food and beer at NYC prices. We had two appetizers, two Shepards pies, a fish and chips, and a sliced steak sandwich with 16 beers total(yes were alcoholics) with a generous tip for Maura(our bartender/waitress) $240.00. Which considering its NYC I feel for the 4 of us was pretty good. Its an Irish pub in the real sense of food, booze, and setting. In NYC thats the way to go if youre looking for something easy peezey with no hassle no headache.

Good for what it is. If you are looking for a quite dive bar to meet up with a friend and have a good conversation then this place for the bill. Staff is friendly. The majority of the people there look like locals, but not in an unwelcoming way.

They have the best Guinness Ive tasted in NYC. Ive had beer in Dublin so I have a basis of what it should taste like and this place definitely takes care of the plumbing to make sure the beer doesnt have that unpleasant skunky taste you find in other bars.

Love this place! The food hits for comfort and the drinks are on point. Its a neighborhood favorite and one of the last of the dive-bars. If you pass by, dont pass it up!

Not as crowded as in other pubs. Their food is very good, and the menu is longer than one can expect, therefore many options to choose from. It is a cozy and nice place with friendly staff. A little bit expensive though.

Great draf beer, and the fish and chips was the best

It always feels like coming home. A wonderful neighborhood pub. 5 star food, service and atmosphere. For those who don’t know, this is the Allstate pub featured in the closing credits of the tv show, Taxi. Different name, but still quite noteworthy.

I came here one night for some dinner. I heard their burger was very good. Its good, with some pickles adding to the flavor, but not my favorite in the city. The service was great, with a friendly bartender. The atmosphere was very laid back, akin to an Irish pub, with good vibes.

Ran out in tears bc of a (racist?) elderly caucasion man. It all started when he looked at me with a terrible expression as soon as i sat down (I am an Asian woman).He did not say a single word, just stared at me blankly. I asked him if he needed to see my id, to which he looked at me like I cursed his mother and replied yes in the most hateful way imaginable. He immediately said, what do you want to which i replied i just sat down, may i please have a moment. He then sat a water down and said here is this in the meantime.. As i decided what i wanted heignored me on multiple occasions, and finally said i think you are good with water. Mind you--I havent had a single drink at all today; I certainly had been in my head over the loss of my mother and may had been off--but 1000%, never was I ever rude to him in the slightest. Obviously I didnt and dont think I would have, but I was genuinely tempted to call the police and ask them to bring a breathalyzer to test right in front of him, as I found this accusation appalling, given no reason for him to say so.Never did I stumble, wobble, shake, or slur a single English spoken word. When he finally came near me again, I had found the courage and asked him if he enjoyed being rude to me, to which he replied Im not being rude, youve had too much to drink; another time. I cannot emphasize any further that I havent had a single drink this entire day. At this point, I am the most sober a human can possibly be. I felt so upset and rejected for no reason, it was a dehumanizing experience.... I get this will not affect their business at all, as it seems like a neighborhood bar and regulars will probably laugh at this with the bartender himself and deem me as a drunken over-reactor. To be honest, I dont want this to affect their business. I dont judge people on their worst action/ experience. But, I do want it to be know, kindness should be free and my ethnicity shouldnt be the currency required to purchase it. Its fine if you dont believe me, no-one ever believes women in these situations... Its just a fact I must accept. I wanted to release this from my heart and share my experience for anyone who reads, so they can make their decision if they want to support a place who enables this type of behavior. There is far too much hate in the world, its sad to see so much, so close to home. Sending all peace and blessings and may this sad miserable human heal from the demons he is forced to live with. I leave this experience behind me... Much love!

Walked a group of like 20 people over here last night at 3:15am. Saturday night totally assumed they’d be open but they were closed. Door was locked although we could see people inside drinking. We smoked a jay outside and all went home. Shame.

My Guinness was warm and the burger was very over priced. The bun was cheap and you have to pay for every add on including lettuce. I asked for the buyer medium and it was medium-well. Over all disappointing.

This is a place for regulars. Everyone knows your name, and is super friendly. They have a changing menu weekly and offer all the general drinks you would want. They offer party reservations for large groups and are very accommodating for extra seating. The waitresses are super friendly and fairly young. The lighting is dim for a chill time. They do play most of the big games going on in the season.

Tucked away on the upper West Side is this little Irish pub serving good beer with a decent bite to eat. This is not the kind of place you go to eat but if you are drinking and need a bite its totally worth it. The fries are awesome!

Great place for a drink. The margaritas are delicious. If your hungry try the mac and cheese its soooo good! Chicken wings are pretty good too. Seems like a small place but its pretty big. Trivia night are Wednesday .

Aside from great food and drinks, this bar has an interesting history. Used be W.M Tweeds back in the 70s. If you know the movie “Looking for Mr. Goodbar”, you know the rest of the story.

Food was really good here and the service was great. The one waitresses who served us all was very patient and kind. I would definitely recommend this place.

Stopped here today because I was tired from site seeing and they were two blocks from my hotel. Was in the mood for an Irish Pub. Had a great neighborhood feel to it. I had their fish and chips and they were great. Had their emerald Inn beer which was really good too If Im ever in NYC again I will probably hit them up especially if Im close by.

A good friend of mine and I went there a month or 2 after they opened. It was not the greatest experience. The food was tasteless and bland, and something was off about the tap beer. Couldnt tell for sure but tasted as though the taps hadnt been cleaned in quite a while. We even went back a month or so later to see if it had gotten any better as at the time, it was the only viable option in the immediate neighborhood. Same experience. I give it 2 stars because at least the service was good and the staff was nice......

Call first. Google, Yelp, AND their website all say its open daily from 10 to 6 but thats not alway true. Twice now we have been here during those hours and they wont open the door. At their old location they used to have a terrific full Irish breakfast. At this one, if you can get in, its just okay. Super sad, it used to be a relic in the neighborhood!

I love tapas and I was so happy when this place opened up. I came the first week it opened and Ive come back multiple times since. There always seems to be new items on the menu when I come which makes each experience different. Whenever I come its with a small group and well usually order 7-8 items, and it all comes out a good pace and is very easy to pass around the table to share. Always flavorful and delicious. There have certainly been flaws in the times Ive dined here, once the drinks took 20 minutes to come out, once they added a sauce to a dish even though we specifically mentioned an allergy to it. But the servers have never had a rotten attitude about it and have always fixed everything as soon as its brought to their attention. Definitely would recommend this place!

Very very bad I had there burger and I still feel bad since I had that burger and actually my boyfriend had also burger and he feel the same way.The customer service is really bad the waitress didn’t feel like working so we went to sit at the bar the bar tender was really nice and worked good but the lady that worked in the restaurant itself was really not in the mood for anyone

I waited a long time to come here since I loved the old Emerald Inn and I didnt think the new one would be as good. Im happy to say that I love this one just as much. The staff is friendly and low key, just like the pub. They had Magners cider, which is hard to find and several open bottles of Jamesons. My friend and I got dinner. Great pub food with a twist. He had some watermelon gazpacho that he loved along with a club sandwich. I had one of the best French dip sandwiches Ive ever had.

Ive been coming into the Em since 1985 when it was over on Columbus. I (we) have always been well treated and well served. It has a pub menu with variety that works very well. I am introducing my daughter to the joint and I hope to meet her there regularly over the next 10 years or so.

Emeril what can I say being going there for years being through a couple of chef seems like there find someone now he not that bad bears is cold bartender John is pretty good quick one liners joke here and there customers are very friendly you can join into conversations even if already going on when you walk in not a problem would recommend it for a frienn drink

My friends & I stop in before our annual Tedeschi Trucks Beacon theater concerts in October . The food is good , but John & the other bartenders make us feel at home. Thats why we come back year after year.

Food was good - Good pub fare - HOWEVER - ridiculous prices(as in too much). Burgers/Sandwiches for 4 and a few beers was over $180 w a tip - rip off - even for Manhattan. Sorry.

Peaceful but never empty, great food and drinks. Probably one of the more cozy pubs on 72nd and a far cry away from the noise of the rest of the street somehow.

Great neighborhood bar. My favorites are the Jameson Manhattan, loaded nachos and the veal parm. Oh and free comedy on Friday nites!

A neighborhood classic. Good bar food and irish bartenders. ..the real deal.

We went there for a meal, my wife ordered some chicken fingers as she only wanted a snack. When they arrived (which wasnt very long after we placed the order) she bit into the first one and it was still raw, this put us off our meal. When we complain about it, the lady just said sorry about that, Ill get you another one. We would never go there again.

Steves review should be ignored. he was asked to leave the bar, very polietly, due to complaints from other customers. his response was to bad mouth the bar to all local businesses, print fliers up spreading lies, and physically threaten the staff.My father and I have been enjoying the fine drinks and wonderfully courtious staff. Charlie personally ensures my dad always has his favorite dinner, never changing the charge, despite drastically higher prices for T-Bone steaks.Come to Emerald for the drinks, stay for the staff, service, and friends!
