Fun spot for lunch or dinner with friends. High price point but you’re in midtown. What do you expect. Came here for lunch with a friend after a night out and was pleasantly surprised. Food is great quality. Servers are friendly and attentive. We started off with the miso soup, filet, hamari skirt steak, sirloin, garlic fried rice and garlic shrimp. Top three meats in my opinion are the hamari skirt steak, toro beef and the kalbi chuck rib. Everything was amazing. Sides like the spicy cucumber and the cabbage salad were nice to break up the richness of the meats. The grill was always hot which was nice on the 14 degree day. Id come back with more people to try more of the menu.
Don’t overlook Gyu-Kaku if you’re in midtown. Known more for barbecue you cook tableside, they offer other tasty Japanese dishes. The takoyaki (fried dough balls with octopus) was crisp yet light. I particularly enjoyed the karaage (fried chicken) rice bowl with shredded cabbage and spicy aioli ($14.85 plus tax).My tip if you’re there on a hot afternoon: request for a seat in the middle of the restaurant. The counter overlooking the street is quite warm because of the glare from the buildings across from it.
Terrible SERVICE Empty Restaurant! I sat at a table for over 30 Minutes with no Greeting No water the waiter passed my several times and still did not take my order . I left without my order being taken ! Do not recommend Avoid this place!
Food was good. But it was really hard to get the staff’s attention. Better options for the price.
We always visiting NYC each year and stayed most of the time at San Carlos Hotel! I wasn’t even pay attention that this place is just across the street so we did try to go there last night (10/19/23) and me and my daughters was really surprise their meat was tasty, passed in our test of goodness! Our server was amazing too- thank you for taking care of us last night! Will come back again next time!
Food was mid since everything was marinated (tasted the same).Server took 12 minutes to bring our food and our time limit was an hour and 45 minutes. He took the menu away when he brought our third order saying it’s our last call which is weird because it took him forever to bring our food. The only good thing about this place is s’mores.
I’ve been to many all you can eat bbq places but this one was not so good.We had an 1hr and 45 min time limit - which is fine and reasonable BUT it took a very long time to get our food each time we ordered. I even timed it at one point where it took 12 minutes to get 3 tiny little trays of meat. (Which yeah - the trays of meat were very small, like 2-4 slices of meat per order) We basically were only to able to order 3 times before they made the last call and we often sat on our phones waiting for the next round of meat to come out.I don’t really understand why it would take so long to bring out our meat? It’s literally raw unprepared meat. It shouldn’t take 12 minutes for us to receive 3 slices of uncooked meat. I understand it might be to prevent food waste but I came to an AYCE place to take advantage of all you can eat.Lastly every single meat was marinated and marinated in the exact same way.. like basically every cut of meat tasted the exact same because the marinade was the same. The bill came out to be $150 (including tip) for 2 people. So if you want to take better advantage of ayce.. go somewhere else.
Our server, Hira, was friendly, attentive and helpful—he gave us plenty of time and space to enjoy each item we ordered. We didn’t feel rushed at all! Honestly, this was the best yakiniku experience I’d ever had (and I’ve had yakiniku in Japan)! The service made all the difference. Would highly highly recommend this location.
This is always my go-to place for enjoying Japanese-style BBQ. Ive never encountered any other beef Harami that surpasses the deliciousness of their pot Harami. The restaurant is usually packed, but the staff manages customer care so efficiently that waiting times are minimal, and they are incredibly friendly! I have a fond memory of enjoying a cocktail called Sakegria from an old menu; Id love to see that revived for happy hour—it used to be my source of happiness.I would love to have that cocktail again!
Pros: Really good food for meat lovers like us. Amazing drinks.Cons: Service unorganized. Forgot the drinks and get confused with the food. Restrooms: Synonymous of disaster. Untidy. The staff did too much noise cleaning the restaurant and closing (we wait 20 minutes to get my table reserved at 830pm). Water with soap on the exit, my wife almost fall.
Initial: Had my Father’s Day dinner here and to be honest it was an amazing experience, especially for my first time for this type of cuisine where customer cook their food.Accessibility: At the time of arrival we had to go up couple flight of stairs but it didn’t bother me. I think it was something about the main building the restaurant is connected to was closed since the escalator/elevator was there. I parked at a garage nearby, I don’t even bother looking for parking in Manhattan.Food: Me and the Fiancee ordered the Waygu Dinner which is for two. That course could feed like 3+ people or maybe my stomach shrunk because I got full really quick. My fiancee family ordered a different menu type which I didn’t get much pictures of. The Waygu steak was deliciously rich and juicy. I forgot what it’s called but it’s the only sushi they have that had the meat on it, me and the fiancee loved that. Toward the end of the course we thought it was over and we still had more incoming. I have absolutely no complaints about the dishes and I even gave my daughter some of that fried rice which she loved.Drinks: I ordered a drink similar to Pina Colada, which was really good just not as strong but I wasn’t looking to get tipsy so it worked out just right.Service: Our server Hira who can be seen in one of the photos took care of us really well. He broke down how to cook each item and corrected any mistakes I did when cooking, also helped cut some of the meat up. Made the experience worth it!Closing: Wished I visited this location sooner but since I was brought here for Fathers Day, made the trip worth it especially when I hate traveling to Manhattan. Also if you can’t finish your food since I believe it was a lot, you can cook the rest and take it home. I’m actually consuming it now at work for lunch. Love this place and I’ll be visiting again quite soon with the boys.Note: I didn’t take pictures of everything, still way more stuff that came with the Waygu Course on top the Chocolate Lava Cake with Ice Cream that’s included.
Showed up on a busy Friday night with a party of 6. Even tho the place was packed, the service was still amazing and on point, didn’t need to wait forever make another order or getting the check, etc. The cuts were good and fresh, they even replaced the grill for us halfway thru. The choc lava cake with ice cream for dessert was a great choice 🍰🍰 as well as the mochi ice cream. Can’t remember which cuts tasted the best but I do remember the NY Sirloin steak 🥩 was delicious.
We were walk in guests. No reservations but the front attendee accommodated us but did nicely notified us that there is a reservation about an hour and a half later. We gladly took the free slot knowing we could finish our dinner within that time.We got the meat lovers set. And that’s all that you see in the pictures with this review. Except the extra order of hot sake on the side. This smaller size option was enough for me plus a few shots for me lady.We were left to cook for ourselves but I believe if you ask for assistance they could help you with cooking too. They did change the grill pretty often. The food portions was perfect for the two of us with a little left over to have it in to go boxes.Although there was a scheduled reservation after us, we were not rushed at all during our meal.
Great food and service in midtown. Food was also affordable. Will visit again
Super tasty food. Service is great, but this place does get really busy. Atmosphere super loud when its lunch time. But, overall, it was a great experience.
We got the meat lovers platter and added on the spicy pork and it was all amazing! The salad they start you off with is delicious and a nice warm up for all of the meat. We upgraded one of our meats to the $5 option and we recommend doing so. The s’mores at the end was a nice touch as well. Make sure that you download the ap and get points for your meal!
The food here is amazing I love it. Fresh selection of meats. Clean bathrooms, ambiance is great. Babisha was our server and she was amazing. Very friendly and attentive!!! Will be back!
Overall: super yummy Japanese bbq meats! Went there on a Thursday evening with a few friends and was seated immediately (beware of busier nights and weekends and plan accordingly). Food is always so good! Meat lovers for two comes with a good amount of food for a decent price. Must try the kalbi and sirloin steak topped with a bowl of rice.Price: $$, decent for what you orderService: the staff is accommodating and the server I had was super attentive and gave us a free s’more!Love this place and would come again!
We ordered the Chef platter. From the image, it seemed like a lot of food on the picture wasn’t much, but we were full. I thought we weren’t going to be able to finish the food, but we did. I was really full.I would recommend that the Chef Platter include deserts like the s’mores.Staff was nice. The location needs a facelift.
Not really sure what to make of this place. Our party had a good experience but nothing really stood out. The food was good but not memorable. I would recommend this place for those who never been there but it’s probably not a place I’d go back to. However, I’m glad I went. No matter what, don’t get the ramen.
As a guy who loves Japanese and Korean cuisine and all those GyuaKakus, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to dine at Gyu-Kaku. Warm and inviting atmosphere that made me feel right at home, that included the fact, that I had to cook my own mealThe menu offered a wide array of options, from classic yakiniku dishes to more unique selections like the Kalbi Short Rib Chimichurri. I opted for the Gyu-Kaku Signature Course, which included a variety of meats and sides. One of the highlights of my meal was the Harami Miso Skirt Steak. The combination of miso marinade and tender, flavorful skirt steak was an explosion of umami in my mouth. The other meats were equally delicious and cooked to perfection on the grill built into our table. The sides were just as impressive, with the Garlic Fried Rice being a standout dish. The rice was fluffy and flavorful, expertly seasoned with garlic and soy sauce. We also enjoyed the Spicy Tuna Volcano, which was not only tasty, but also beautifully presented.Service was ok, but make sure they understand you, because they might pretend to understand what you asked for, but they not.Overall, my dining experience at Gyu-Kaku was very good. The ambiance, food, and service all combined to create a truly memorable evening. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a unique and delicious do-it-yourself dinner.
The tower was underwhelming but the appetizers we got were good. They can make the mango cocktail into a virgin drink so that was good. They were quick with the food and smores were given at the end but overall, just an ok meal.
Service was great but you have to like this type of food to go there. Meat was unpleasantly served on little plates. Got grossed out and asked for check within 20 minutes and left
I love this Japanese BBQ chain store, This location is great. The servers are nice, friendly, and attentive to your needs. The food is great, its moderately affordable, lunch specials range from $10.95 to about $15 (before tax and tip) for a single person from opening until 3pm. And they have happy hour running for most of the day. Its a great place to go to with friends to barbecue together and the group food options usually have smores as a dessert 😋.
We got the meat lovers special. Came with miso soup, rice, fried chicken, 3 pieces of sushi, salad, and lots of meat. Smores for dessert wasnt included in the special. My boyfriend loves this place, everything is always simple and great there.
A very interesting place to walk into the first time. They greet you as you are being led to your seats. When you are seated, the grill is turned on. No bbq smell at all. Only when you are cooking do you smell the food a bit. The food itself was delicious. The attraction here is the fact that you are the one cooking your own food. You are in control of how your food is cooked. If you like Japanese barbeque, this place is a must.
Hira was a great surver, attentive, responsive with every request. He amplified and complimented the atmosphere. Definitely made my experience at Guy-Kaku well worth the walk cross town. Will definitely come back.
Went here a few days ago for a friend’s birthday party. Staff were very nice and catered to all of our needs. I found the food a bit lacking, but it was a very fun and enjoyable experience with the grills. The meat was fresh but a little too fat for my taste. The smores were definitely the best part, though! It was a nice and enjoyable experience, but I would not go back.
This place was awful. On top of the food being horrible, once we walked in, there were several dead lantern flies EVERYWHERE on the floor. Honestly stomach churning, that was my first red flag and it made my skin crawl. We’re seated and my table was sticky and the staff kept SHOUTING at each other. It is impossible to hold a conversation or train of thought with the kitchen staff screaming at servers and the servers screaming at each other from across the room. Also, the servers were so unprofessional? Why is one of the guys taking selfies with food on the tray they’re about to serve? Food was actually almost inedible. Salad was so insanely dry and wilted, the cucumbers didn’t look fresh, I think they served old salad from the day before. My lychee gin cocktail barely had any alcohol in it, it literally was juice and soda. The ice cream served was rock solid and served in a hot bowl to try and melt it.
This is not my first time at Gyukaku, if youre not familiar with this type of BBQ, please read into it before you go. Tonights dining experience was very nice. We briefly waited for out table and our server was very nice. The food is always good. We went for the Valentines Day special. Of course, you can still order more BBQ add ons if youre still hungry. I suggest that if you do not order an appetizer(s), then go for it. Otherwise, its a lot of food. The cocktails were pretty straight forward. I wasnt expecting anything spectacular but they were enjoyable.I enjoyed the thin slices of beef paired with the sauces on the table.Theres this garlic chicken thigh that I think is fantastic. Especially if you dont want to just load up on beef. Watch out for slices of meat with a lot of fat. It can flare up, which usually isnt an issue. I try to brush it on the grill two or three times before setting it off center. My only complaint is small. The side salad had a bit too much dressing but lets be honest, who is going to a BBQ place to enjoy a salad? 10/10.
We got the current holiday special everything was so delicious, enjoyed the table-side fried rice service and the amazing flavor made it perfection. Service was amazing and everyone was so kind! All the meats were fresh and high quality l would definitely return 😩
My favorite Gyukaku experience thus far after a disastrous experience at the Cooper Union location (only gave us one set of sauce for three people and the servers basically ignored us). I have gone to the Times Square location and the Cooper Union location in the past, but this one was most memorable in a positive way.We made a reservation for Saturday afternoon in mid October. Upon coming in, they had your temperature checked and asked us to fill out our contact info (for contact tracing purposes). I really loved the interior decorating as there was so much natural light coming in. We were served right away and we ordered a variety of appetizers, drinks, and the HH bbq course combo. They gave each of us utensils and our own sauce set (yay no sharing this time). The waiter was very attentive and came up to several times refilling our water, and asking if everything was okay (major redemption from the Cooper Union location). The meats with the BBQ were marinated really well and was delicious with the various sauces they provided. The appetizers were also really tasty and flavorful. At one point I had to dive into the rice as some of the dishes did get a little too salty. The drinks, which happened to be during HH prices as well, were an added touch to the experience (we each ordered two drinks each). They definitely did not skimp out on the alcohol as it did make us feel chipper (or maybe because we are lightweights). If you are in the mood for some Japanese bbq, I definitely recommend coming here. What makes this different from Korean BBQ is definitely the marinate, and Japanese tends to be more sweeter and flavorful than Korean BBQ.Note: It is best if you make a reservation ahead of time. Happy Hour normally happens from afternoon to 6pm everyday.
I’ll start with the bad: I called to make a reservation. I asked when is the last sit down for all you can eat. I was told 9pm is okay. I got there at 9pm. The waiter greeted us, and left. We waited 10 minutes for him to return. Then told us it’s too late to start all you can eat. I said that’s why we came here. Who wants limited Japanese BBQ? He went to “ask” management and said sorry can’t do it unless we want a 60 min limit as opposed to the full 90 min limit. We proceeded. The waiter disappeared. He came back and offered to bring us more at once so we can still enjoy. Our waiter then disappeared again and another waiter took over but we never saw him. Took forever to get drink refills. The good: Food was amazing. It tasted delicious. Best place I’ve been to.Suggestions for management: Make sure the workers answering the phone know the correct information. Have discussion with servers that they are attentive. Ours was in a rush and never wanted to be near us. We paid full price for 60 minutes as opposed to 90. Kinda scammed there. AC DOES NOT WORK.
Quick service, flavorful marinadesWent to meet a friend for lunch. The entrance of the street can be tricky. Off 3rd, separate door to head upstairs. They have lunch combos which are great and plenty of food.
My sister made ressos via open table for a Mothers Day lunch and somehow we scored the private room in the back. The seating was a bit weird, as in you were sitting pretty close to the ground on these weird seats, but it wasnt uncomfortable - just different. Ive been to the Gyu Kaku in the East Village for dinner but I think my experience in the Midtown East one was a lot better (this might have also been due to the private room - made us feel like VIPs).For our party of six, we ordered two sets. I cant remember exactly which two but we had a ton of food including salad, miso soup, bibimbap, fried rice, shrimp, chicken, various cuts of beef, it was just A LOT. It was a little bit of everything, which was nice because we got to try a lot of things. Everyone was stuffed. It was a little bit too much food (since we also ordered some dumplings and calamari to start with), but we were still able to finish everything.Tip - they have a great happy hour menu. Its half off drinks and certain food items. My favorite is the spicy tuna volcano.
Had a fantastic dining experience at Gyu-Kaku! Our server, Pony, was attentive, friendly, and made the meal even more enjoyable. Service was quick, and Pony ensured everything was perfect. Highly recommend!
I’ve lived in Japan for 20+ years and was always a big fan of GyuKaku in Mukogaoka-Yuen. The selections are a bit different but the experience is very similar. The service at this resturant is good and was worth the trip to here (the other store near Times Square is nigh impossible to get a table during lunch time).I have a rating system when it comes to tipping and the staff here passed with flying colors (except 1). Although one person forgot to bring the soup and salad, I saw another person check my table and reminded the person that forgot. I never had to ask for anything and they did the drink refills and checkins at a good pace. Definitely 4/5 stars for the service alone.
We placed a group order for takeout today, but one meal was completely burnt! Even the shrimp was burnt to a deep dark crisp, which is unacceptable! The entire dish had a burnt taste. Was this prepared by a newbie? How can this happen? I will never order from here again!!!!! Incredible!!!
Meat eaters can’t go wrong at Gyu-Kaku. The lunch menu was perfect and the 3 meat selection was almost too much. The hanger steak was amazing. Overall fun to cook your own food and share different entrees. They were out of the sweet soy sauce which was so disappointing because it’s amazing to dip your meat in for added flavor. The other sauce options (ponzu and a hot/spicy) are fine but the soy is the star. Their salad dressing is also fantastic.I recommend booking on Opentable early if you are trying to make an evening dinner. The stairs are steep to walk up but their is an elevator in the adjoining building.
BEWARE OF THE BILL.Red flag, telling me I have an hour and 25 minutes to eat. After receiving the Bill I decided to pay 20% tip, when the waiter came to charge me I selected 20% obviosly and the total came at 231 and change, I found it weird and started to ask the waiter for the charges from $34 to 48 in gratitud. He and another waitress tried to spin it like it was taxes. I flipped and asked if you are seriously charging taxes in tips, no even that, how 20% is $48 out of 185. Your receipt even explains it.They made me wait, and when the waiter came back and explained the adjustment, threw the pen and said no apologize , and more like this was my fault.I am sure this is going around overcharging customers, I had been here 4 times, and this is the last time I eat her, save your money, and go to an establishment that will care for their patrons.
Worth every cent. Great meats, good soups, fried rice was perfect. No complaints. It is hard to get in, so get a reservation.
Service was great. And the food is delicious. The place is so good to take pictures!!
Go when it’s happy hour. It’s more affordable, that’s my tip. But the food is great. Drinks are amazing. Worth every dollar
My first time at Gyu-Kaku and Pony made it such a wonderful experience! So excited to come back to this location, Pony is so sweet!
Tldr: 11/10 would recommend. Take it from someone whos been coming ~weekly even throughout the pandemic.I come here all the time because its my favorite restaurant! I usually eat alone, but bring my friends every chance I get. I like sitting in the window-facing booths so I dont feel overwhelmed by the noise of all the other customers plus I can people-watch. My go-to is the Bistro Hanger Steak (because its tender and not fatty and I like it with the default marinade and also their spicy sauce) and I put them right on my bowl of white rice (after grilling it for 45sec each side) so the sauces seep into their amazing rice. Harami in Secret Pot is good for when I wanna splurge a bit, Premium Sirloin is a solid backup, and I love the Umakara marinade but not the cuts they offer (yaki & ribeye). I love their cocktails (Tokyo Sunset, Tokyo Iced Tea and Coco-Mo are my faves) and the Cheese Corn Butter as well. Their service is great, both from the servers that recognize me as a regular and from servers that dont because I came at a different time or sat in a bigger booth. Lunch menu is a steal IMO, and the AYCE is an okay option but I personally just dont eat enough to make the cost worth it. I dont often get these, but I love their lava cake and their edamame is good too. Im not a fan of their miso soup though. When I lived nearby, I ordered their Gyu-Bento although that wasnt worth the price for how I like it.
Food is excellent. Service is fast. Many menu options. If you eat a lot. You will be spending a lot. Portions are small.
My favorite place in NYC. The food is always so good. But I hate that they changed the garlic noodles recipe .. 🥴
Every time I’ve been here, the food hasn’t disappointed. I love how spacious it is inside, and their happy hour gives you good deals if you’re dining in with friends. This is my go-to Gyu-Kaku in the city.
This place is great very intimate seating and is definitely different from other jbbq restaurants Ive been to. The food is great and the service is great 10/10 need to go back.
Stopped by for a late night bite around 11pm and discovered it was happy hour as well! I was able to get an appetizer and saki for $13!!! Would love to go back to try the BBQ!The spicy tuna volcano consists of a fried rectangular cubes of rice topped with marinated tuna. Its only lightly spicy.
Hiraa was an amazing server! This was my first time here and Ill absolutely be coming back. The food is to die for!
Visited this place a lot of times now and it’s so good. When you want to try Japanese bbq, this is the best place to go for. They have good lunch options, but you can go anytime you want.
Service is phenomenal, all staff very attentive and constantly ready to clear plates, adjust flames, and switch the grill plate. Our waiter Hira was an excellent waiter!Raised tables and atmosphere are very niceFood would be a 4.5, meat is very good but some cuts were difficult to bite through
Ive always had a good time at gyu-kaku. The meat, generally, is great and the social activity of grilling with your friends cant be beat. Sometimes the meat can be a bit sinewy and Ive had some disappointing appetizers, but nothing thats ever ruined my experience or Ive had to send back. The drinks are far too sweet for me so I generally order beer or stick to H2O.Service is decent. The servers themselves are curteous and happy to fulfill small requests when possible, but sometimes flagging them down can be difficult. The restaurant can be a bit noisy too as all of the interior surfaces are glass, wood, or metal, so youll hear other conversations easily on busy days.I love gyu-kaku and go there several times a year. You just need to be in the mood for it!
Server Pony was very polite, honest with our quantity choices and suggested the perfect meal. She should be promoted for her great service and kindness. Maiverick also a great help and was attentive even though he was not our waiter. I would recommend to all my friends and family.
A lot of food for a great price. service can be very rushed or non-existent - doesnt seem like a lot of in between of that. food is good however and vibe is great too
Meat is tender and seasoned well. Great atmosphere, good service and reasonable prices.
I love it here. Good drinks, great food and its inexpensive. You cook your own meats here so you can make it just the way you like 👍🏾
Great experience! Answered all our questions. Had tasty drinks and amazing food!
Delightful spot for flavorful food. Relatively inexpensive for midtown. Maiverick went above and beyond to make us feel special. We got the family meal for 4 and couldnt finish it.
Nice place to come with your children. The children love the inbuilt stove in the tables. You can watch them cook. We had a great time!!!
I sat at the bar and didnt order food... heads up check your sake bottles the second shot out the bottle something green came out then we got a new bottle and a new cup and something was in the pour from the second bottle!!A separate review:My sister wanted bipimbap and this is on the way so I tried to call and order the lady was very rude in explaining that I cant order over the phone I must go online (that is the only way to get to go food) I end up coming in to sit down to get my sister food to go. I order two bipimbap no mushrooms the waitress says it doesnt come with mushrooms (I go to a different Gyu-Kaku often IT COMES WITH MUSHROOMS) I get my food to go didnt get served anything at the table the waitress highlights the tip portion on the receipt. I get my bipimbap home after leaving my sister heat it up and it is filled with mushrooms that I can not eat.A complete waste of my time, energy, peace(dealing with the rudness) and money now I have to go back outside and get food.
Perfect for Japanese BBQ!Service was perfect, and food was delicious! Will definitely visit other franchises and hope they are just as good!
The presentation is amazing and the service from the servers are very responsive. The food was also great!
Brenda and Serena are absolutely amazing. The best people ever to have serving you & just in general. The friendly & kind atmosphere they bring is the reason I go out my way to come to this location. I never regret it every time!
Service was great, the wait staff was really on top of everything. If you want to order alcohol go between 4-6, all drinks are half off and absolutely delicious. They have a lot of fruity cocktails and slushies as well as drafts and wines if thats more your thing. About 5$ a drink if you go then and even cheaper for the beers. You can pick a bbq package from the menu (fixed price) and each says how many people it would feed and which dishes are included. We had 4 people and the package was enough to fill us all (adults) even though we hadnt eaten all day. They do have many dishes to choose from their side menu if you want to add those to your meat set. They have chicken, pork, and beef all various cuts and marinades. Make sure to call ahead! They require reservations.
Honestly this place was a gem that me and my girlfriend went to for our anniversary. Definitely book a reservation and you will be seated quickly and have great service. Shout out to Jose our server! But yes food is amazing, service is quick and responsive and overall just a good time. I recommend the meat lover bbq course and taiyaki for desert. This is good for any occasion
The food, ambiance, and service was phenomenal. Our waiter Hira heroically saved us from the flames, gave us princess treatment, was respectful and gave us extra marshmallows and napkins. We highly recommend this place and hope his dreams come true!!
My favorite restaurant of Gyu-Kaku! Ive been in all Vancouver, Canada locations, and all in NY. But this one has the best view! Love it! Harami Miso Steak and Garlic Mushroom is must try!
I LOVE this place. The meat is especially good and the service is fast. We did all-you-can-eat and the gyoza and all the cuts were pretty good. Normally I love spice marinade but the best ones were the non-spicy ones. The service is great as well! Whoever created stores post-dinner was honestly such a clever individual. The matcha ice cream is also so good but its manufactured. I want to go back!!
Been awhile at Gyu Kaku especially east side with better views windowside. Big fan. Been to Tokyo location as well.Happy hour good bargain. $120 for 3. Couldnt eat all. Appetizers corn fair, salad ok, calamari good, beef sushi better. Meat selection good, but would hope less salty selection.Shame horumon (intestines) off the menu due to too much smoke. Thanks for changing grills diligently. Looks like much now no longer flat...Smore finish a treat. Service experienced. Not super courteous but sufficiently attentive.Nice visit back to memory lane. Seems much reward points expired... oh well.
If you are in the city that never sleeps, have time to make and wait for a reservation, and want to eat some insane Japanese BBQ, then you must come to Gyu-Kaku!. If you can take advantage of the happy hour which discounts the price of both the food and the drinks. This place is super chill, and the food comes out fast. Just what you want at a BBQ spot. They have lots of fancy cocktails, and the marinate on the pork meat is super tasty. I definitely want to come back next time Im in town. Did I mention that they have smores for dessert?
Been many times and is always amazing food. Cooking your own food is such a fun experience.
Great place to stuff yourself on barbecue. All day happy hour prices are the best.Service at this location is outstanding. We’ve been fortunate to have Hirra take care of us the last two times and it’s made a huge difference. He’s very attentive and kind but not pushy. We’ll be back!
I went to this restaurant for the first time with my sister. The food was ok but not better than another location I went to. The first thing they tell you as soon as they seat you is that you have to leave after 90 min but then also offering some all you can eat special. How can you have the all you can eat option and leave after 90 min? Its not possible. We ended up ordering what we liked and ordered dessert after and still needed a little more time. Im hoping they meant 90 mins from the point the food arrives and not from the point youve been seated. Also, the grill at our table kept going out (at least 4 times before it was finally resolved). We didnt feel good to keep calling someone over but this wasnt our fault..this was the restaurants fault, after all🤷🏼♀️. Also, it was my sisters birthday and no one came to sing happy birthday. The waitress was horrible to me! She started off good. I ordered a few items and something was missing. I politely asked if it was coming and if not if she can send an order of it. My sister ordered several things throughout the time we were there. I didnt ask for much. Just my appetizer that didnt come and, at the end, a glass of water. She became frustrated and short with me. Its like she was struggling to keep up being polite with us, especially me. Although, I gave her the least amount of work and she was very rude with me...she didnt ask me if I liked the experience there but asked my sister only! She completely ignored me. I unfortunately tipped her more than she deserved. If you see her, she is an overweight Asian woman with a distressed face. She definitely hates her job and she takes it out on the guest. This location is in an upscale area and I was expecting at least the basic pleasantries of dining out. When you see people buying almost $200 worth of food coming in polite and happy, it should be so easy for you to provide us with the foods we order and happily because the tip could be very nice for you.I dont think Ill ever go back to this location and I will tell others to beware.
Great drinks! Really, experiment a bit with the drinks menu, youll thank me later. Food was good but nothing Id give 5 stars to. Bit too pricey but the service was warm and welcoming.
Probably one of the worse experiences I’ve had with Gyu-Kaku. This place doesn’t set aside tables for walk-ins. We only got our table because of another no show. Quoted for 20 min wait, ended up waiting 30+.Another issue with this place is that they don’t grease their grills or grease very little. So the meat ends up getting burn half of the time.We were seated in front of the window bar, and since the flame was very close to you, you can really feel the heat on your face.Do not order the flavor of Japan set for 2. Some of the meat we got wasn’t even cut at all, and it was a nuisance to cook. On top of that I have no idea what the guys at Gyu-Kaku were smoking when they thought dipping Oreos in batter and frying them for dessert after a potentially greasy BBQ meal was a good idea. The positives are that the service was good once we got inside, but that’s the end of that.
Food was delicious and they coursed out each of our items which made for a fun experience. My fiancé and I sat for 2 hours. Hira was fantastic and quickly responded to our requests
Great group meal. We ordered the platter for 6, for 5 people and it felt like ir could have fed 7-8 people. Service was attentive
I love being able to cook my food just how I like it. Prices are cheaper at Happy Hour.
Glad we went....Fun experience! Go with a group, but be prepared to cook.Resturant is noisy, but is has a great energy! Smores are a lot of fun.
Food was amazing!! Pony gave us excellent service, was kind, helpful and an all around an excellent server. I highly recommend coming and ordering hanger steak. Ask pony to be your server :)
Very nice place with great food and portion sizes. Our server Hira was very useful and attentive! He explained everything about the Barbecue course, especially since this was our first time here. Would definitely recommend :)
This place is a lot of fun, cooking your own food, drinks, a general merry atmosphere. When you exit you get to wander through a mall that looks like it was decorated in the 90s. Highly recommended for kids.
Always a great meal and so much fun! I usually go there with my wife, but this time I was celebrating with coworkers, and they loved it too.
Nice place for lunch! Came with a friend and the service was great. Meat lovers was very tasty. $50 per person after tip. Would recommend. Similar if not the same as the locations down in TX.
Amazing BBQ spot. Hira was one of the best servers I have ever had. Super attentive and great personality. Will come back!
We had a great view with great experience at this location by 50th Street and 3rd Ave. Enjoy every moment of it.
Hira has provided outstanding service! He was attentive, friendly, and made our dining experience exceptional. He went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed and provided great recommendations. Highly recommend!
A very special lunch! You sit around a fire and grill your own stuff at your table. An interesting way of having lunch. For 10 to 20 USD you get a combination of soup, salad and meat or veggies. The latter you prepare yourself. Delicious. And entertaining.Very professional, quick service. Nice, bright atmosphere. Not expensive.Dont forget the Smores dessert!
My favorite location besides the one in white plains. Always a chill vibe and the food comes out quick!
First time coming loved it definitely coming back. Our server Hira was awesome cut up our meat for us and very friendly. 100 percent would recommend.
Such a great experience having dinner at Gyu-Kaku. The food was fantastic and a service even better. Narissara was my server. She was so professional ,very attentive and informative. During the meal I got another server named A taking care of me as well, she was so nice.Overall I’d give this place 10/10 and definitely come back.
Hira was great! It was our first time here, and he help us around. The meat was wonderful. Cannot wait for my next time here
Food is great, the service is amazing and the atmosphere is phenomenal. A is always a pleasure to have as a waitress looking forward to coming back and having her as my server.
Yesterday I took my family to dinner at this location I made a 9;30 pm reservation my waiter was very impatient and rushing me to cook my food I ordered a drink for me an my wife an in the middle of our conversation I look down into my cup an there was a roach in my drink my wife told the manager we aren’t paying for the meal an when she asked for a to go box for her food they said they didn’t have any we looked at the table next to us an it was filled with boxes they ruined my experience at this location I will never go back an make sure you check your food an glasses if you eat here I been vomiting since I left
Great place if you want a change for the normal. You grill your own food and they have lots of good food here
Fun little dinner spot. We got the meat lovers course of food. It was perfect for two. Jennifer our waitress was very helpful to us first timers.
The food here was amazing! Such a lovely dinner with my girlfriend. Our waitress, Pony was so nice and caring. Service 10/10 for sure! Food was 10/10 too!
I come here all the time and as always it was great! Our server Boat was amazing as usual and as a usual here I never leave unsatisfied. I bring friends and family very often. I would highly recommend!
Hira was so amazing! Wonderful food and experience.
Haven’t eaten here in a while and came today for lunch for my friend’s birthday! Service and food is still a 100/10! Our server Maiverick was super attentive and kind. Definitely will come back!
Hira was an amazing waiter!! Very fast, kind, and continued to check up on us periodically throughout meal to make sure everything was good. Thank you for your service!
Friendly service, accommodate most of the common allergies. Definitely will visit again.
The food is always amazing! First time at this location, Babisha our server was great! very professional and energetic! Try the pork belly and addicting cucumber sooo good
Wow - Gyu-Kaku is the place to go when you wanna treat yourself. I went there with my SO knowing he would finish all the food lol.Our server Hira was so amazing, on point and gracious. Will definitely go again and we highly recommend
I frequent this location but today was exceptionally great!!!! Hira was amazing and he helped me surprise my girlfriend for her birthday. Highly recommend coming to this midtown location,
Cozy place. Very interesting experience of self cooking. Tasty and good value.$70 per 2 person with bottle of wine (happy hour).
We had our son’s birthday at Gyu-Kaku midtown. Food, service and atmosphere were great as always. Our server Penpan was friendly and prompt. Our kids enjoyed BBQ and the s’mores.
The food is excellent and the servers are so professional. Thanks to Ibrahim for guiding us through the different menus and recommending great choices. Outstanding service!
Incredibly good food. Fast efficient service. A bit pricy but worth it.
Update: Ive been here quite a few times and the past 2 times were really bad. The service keeps getting worse and worse and its really bad now. Bartenders dont pay attention to their tables even if theres only one person there. I think he even got annoyed with me for asking for more Lime for my drink. Then he went on a break and didnt even tell me. So I was looking around for him so I could order more but I gave up and got my check instead. The other Gyu Kakus are so much better. This one needs help. The only good part of this visit was the manager, Jose.---------------2023This location is one of a few in Manhattan and it is now one of my favorites. (Theyre all good, honestly). Such great service with fast and friendly staff. The food is really good and all of their raw meats are marinated nicely. I truly enjoy coming here and bringing people who havent done a Japanese BBQ before. Oh, and the happy hour is one of the best Ive ever seen. Their drinks are really good! Only complaint about the happy hour is that its a very weird time slot. You would thing that working a long 9-5 would lead to a nice happy hour for at least an hour....but their happy hour ENDS at 5. Very strange. Doesnt take away from the great experience you will have here.
Used to love coming here. However it’s clear they no longer care about the appearance of this restaurant. Could really use an update. Holes in the walls. Tape covering light sockets. It’s tired. But the food is still great.
Good food and good times specially during happy hour, easy parking on the weekends
Delicious meal! Our server Hinna was excellent. Our first time here and he suggested the “meat lovers for 2”. Perfect introduction to Japanese BBQ. Will be back!
Great experience!!! I have frequented this location before but Hira made it exceptional. Hira helped me surprise my girlfriend for her birthday and was very attentive to our table
Babisha was our server & she did a great job. We appreciate her dedication for giving guests a great service. Thank you!
Food came out at a timely manner. A. was my server and she was nice, funny, and super helpful with my questions. Everything came out tasting great with no complaints!!
HIRA was an excellent server. Very attentive and patient. He was on top of everything before me and my family can ask for anything. Good job‼️
Everything was just perfect and i cant wait to go again. Just being back in New York City in my home state was definitely a treat and I love Japanese and barbecue food so going to a restaurant that did both was a dream. I would definitely recommend the dine-in experience and getting the VIP room as a first time visit with a group of people, make sure reserved your seat and not walk-in. The food was absolutely fresh and if you have any issue with your cook burner you could always ask the waiters for help theyll just get you another one without a long wait. Yes this place is expensive but it was well worth it. And their sake is pretty good as well.
Outstanding meal! Hira was an excellent server and ensured my bibambop didn’t burn. He advised me not to interact with it while it was cooking too.
Ok so this was my first time trying Korean BBQ and this place was the perfect spot to loose my kbbq virginity. I will definitely come back again, again, again!! Also they have this cheesy corn dish ugh it is super delicious and a must try. The fried calamari with that dipping sauce 🤤🤤 everything was just perfect and they have so many alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
The food was really good and the waitress was helpful in helping my significant other and I to choose the best option to eat. The price is a bit expensive but not too crazy for manhattan! We waited a bit for the food before someone took our order. Make reservations!!
Gyu-Kaku never disappoints! Been coming here for a few years and always leave happy. Our server, Hiraa, was really nice and provided amazing service. Would 100% recommend.
Hiraa was perfect . He made sure we had everything we needed and was very assertive . I was so happy with my experience and Will definitely be coming back with my family .
Our server A was amazing!! Food is fantastic and the service couldn’t be any better. Great with food allergies as well! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Our server, who goes simply by A, was amazing and attentive. We got the current special for two, and the food was delicious. There was even a steak sushi.
GLUTEN FREE GOODNESS!!! Just let your server know you are GF/Celiac and they will make sure you get everything GF! Most al the sauces are already GF yet they ensure especially if you order the larger family courses that you are also able to enjoy them!
Had a great dinner at the Midtown East location. Our server Hira was friendly, efficient, and attentive. Would definitely return again.
The food was great first time there service was also great the waiter was friendly and said to use if we download the app we got a free soars for dessert
Our serve Hira was real cool id definitely come back if he was my server again!
Good place for yakiniku, very good quality for price if you pick on of their menus.
So far this is now my favorite location. Missed happy hour but the drinks was worth every penny. I love the dining area at this location too. The prices seemed to have went up since I last went, especially for the sets so if you want to try it, go during happy hr and get the happy hour set or pay by the plate to try this and that. My favorite meat is the hanami beef. Cooks fast and tasty amazing. I also recommend getting the broccoli and roasting it directly on the grill (towards the end of the meal when the flame is lowered or cook it on the edge.) So good. Need to come back asap.
Group of 6 of us. They forgot our Meat Lovers for 2. Took 20 minutes to get water on the table & Saki at least 1/2 an hour. We had ordered many other items so had enough food. This is the 1st time they really fell on their face with the service. Servers were polite but the place was shamefully UNDERSTAFFED!!! They did treat us to dessert but know this group wont be back.Love the food here, especially the Tuna Volcanoes. I will be back.
Lunch special - per person choose 2 or 3 BBQ items, combo with miso soup, salad and rice (you can upgrade your rice - we have one garlic friend rice and another one sukiyaki bibimbap) also order add-on side dishes. All meats are flavored and seasoned, too salty and heavy for me. Serving portion per individual is big, easily to get you quite full. Come visit during lunch special period if you are craving for BBQ with favorable price.
Food was great Ibrahim our server was great
Great flavor. Since it’s a bbq place, it can get a little hot in the summer. Wish they have different dessert. Service was good. Front desk was kinda distracted.
Staff is super friendly and helpful. Food is very well priced as well. Highly recommend the place.
Hira is a wonderful server. We enjoyed our dinner very much thanks to him. Thank you!
I love interactive restaurants where you get to cook at the table and have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, but they’re always SO busy. Walked in at 5:05pm and was told we could be seated, but had to give the table back by 6:30pm. The overall experience was fun and tasty - I highly recommend it. As it was my first time dining here, the waiter explained the menu in detail offering suggestions, which I greatly appreciated. After placing our order, our drinks and food arrived very quickly and there was a steady flow of meats that followed. The restaurant has high ceilings and the atmosphere was relaxed with moderate lighting. My only complaint was a couple of pieces of meat were too fatty to eat, but otherwise the quality seemed good. Will definitely return if I can get a reservation or visit during an off time again.
Hiraa provided amazing service for our birthday party. Great good and atmosphere. Will return many times. Super tasty.
Easy to make reservation, their combo menus were great (lots of variety), serving the giant mug draft beer is big plus, also S’mores for dessert (part of the combo) were great as well! 4 of us ate so much and had so much fun. Great for big group!
The food here is amazing! Fun time, brought some co-workers out for dinner. The dinners are portioned out to where the dinners feed more than they state. (not the norm for restaurants) We definately did not leave hungry!
High quality, affordable price, nice service and tasty ! Already 6th visit in last few months 😂.
My niece and I went here right after Happy Hour and it was pretty crowded. We called ahead of time so we were seated immediately but for walk ins the wait was about 45 minutes. The garlic noodles are a must every time I visit. The staff was pleasant and attentive.
Could use a major upgrade in appearance but the service and the food is 5 star, I come to this location often and it never disappoints . Ibrahim was very attentive and provided great service
This is one of the finest Japanese BBQ in the city. The ingredients are always fresh and well marinated. My favorite is their draft beer specially Kirin which comes in mega mug. The servers are polite and super fast. We have been going to this restaurant for 6 years now. Highly recommended and we definitely will be back soon.
Our server, Hira, was attentive and personable. The food was just okay and expensive for what we ordered.
Oh my goodness this was delicious! We had one of the combo/shared meal options for four people, as recommended by our server. There was loads of food (and certainly no skimping on the meat). The smores at the end were the perfect way to round off the meal!
The food was great. Jose was very nice and his service very good.
The best location!Food was delicious and excellent service ( with PONY ) we definitely will come back again !
Food here is great and so is the service. The server Hira is so awesome and is always showing us the best deals and always super friendly!!!!!
A must go restaurant for lunch when I’m nearby. Narissara is very kind.
Pros- Set menu with an amazing selection of meats and appetizers-- Everything is super tasty and great quality-- There was so much food we almost exploded!- Delicious alcoholized/de-alcoholized cocktail options- Our super sweet waiter!! She was polite, attentive, smiley, and efficientCons- Very costly for a Japanese BBQ (but really worth it)- A tad of a wait to get our table despite arriving for our early 5:45pm reservation on time
A restaurant that really nicely treat me as a human. Best chicken salad hereAll you can eat!!!
I noramally go to other Gyu-Kaku locations and have had no issues. The only two times I have gone to the 3rd Ave location was the most unorganized service Ive seen. Ive never felt more compelled to write a review before. My first visit. I had reservation set for a party of 10 people. Most of which arrived before the reservation time to let the receptionist know the rest of the group would be arriving shortly. They do not seat you until the entire group is there which is fine and I can understand. The enitre group had arrived 10 minutes after our reservation time to only be told our table had just been given away. There is a sign on the reception desk clearly stating a 15 minute grace period for all reservations and they tried sending us away. We had argued with the receptionist, showing our reservation time and that we were clearly still within the 15 minutes, so now they had to scramble to find us a table. My second visit. Was a part of another reservation for 10 people. The restuarant called the contact three times 9 hours before our reservation to let us know our table was ready. They were informed each time the correct time of our reservation. Learning from our previsous mistakes, a portion of our party went to the restaurant 30 minutes before to confirm our reservation and ensure a table would be ready. Then our entire party was at the restuarant 5 minutes before our scheduled reservation. We were told to wait a few minutes and that our table was being cleaned. 30 minutes later, we were told again to wait a few minutes an that our table was just being cleaned. We were the last reservation of the night, so having a 30 minute late start meant halfway through our service, the bar was closed, everyone had gone home for the day, and one of my party members looked over to see what looked like the server recording us and sending a voice message to someone. I feel bad for having to stay past closing. I understand everyone wants to go home, and I dont blame any of the workers if they were feeling frustrated, but this is blatant disorganization on who ever is in charge of managing the dining room. I know customers are told they have a specfific time they would need to be done with their service by, because we were made well aware on my first visit. There was a reservation right after us and we had to be done within the hour. I just dont understand why the party before us was not rushed like we were to avoid this.Coming back to this because I just realized we didn’t get all $700 of food that was ordered. Guess they really wanted us out.To sum it all up, food is very good, service is bad.If you want Gyu-kaku I recommend going to the Flushing or Amsterdam location if you can.
My husband is Japanese and is familiar with Yakiniku but this was my first time and, wow!! Super delicious and enjoyable! Even a Japanese was content with the food and service. We got the Chefs Favorite, which was enough food for two hungry adults. Rafael, our server, was so wonderful and helpful. We cant wait to come back!! (Just make sure to make a reservation!)
The food was ok I had a nice time.
Been going here for many years, it has been great. The entire chain delivered great food but this one was also really good. It turns out recently, I have came 6 times since the pandemic, their quality has dropped. The staff is okay, if you ask for recommendations they will not tell you which one is better but instead the most expensive option. Still pretty good staff though. They stopped caring too much about the restaurant as well. If you ask them a question on the phone they dont pay attention to your question and give a wrong answer sometimes. Also, the beef sukiyaki rice bowl comes ready and other things that the waiters did infront of you. In the past they used to make it infront of you and they still do at other locations but not here. The most recent time we came, I made a reservation for 8:15 and they called me to change it (even though they confirmed before) to 9:15. Keep in mind that the kitchen closes 9:30 (I didnt know they closed at that time, when we called to ask what time the kitchen closes they said 10:30. It turned out that was when the establishment closed altogether and they didnt really think about what I asked them). After sitting down and seeing the menu, it was already 9:30 and we had to order everything at once. Considering that we will definitely order more stuff later, it isnt right to feel rushed to order everything together. When we sat down and ordered appetizers first, we were looking to order the meats when the waitress came to inform us the kitchen was closing and we had to order everything then. We got up and left and went to eat elsewhere that night. Still, the food is good but I recommend going to another location. Times Square location is my favorite after what used to be this one. In the future I hope it returns to the old service and quality it used to be. Since the appetizers were already ordered, the manager (very nice lady) told us for the inconvenience we could take those appetizers to go, free of charge. That is a considerate move my the manager and I appreciate that, so we left a normal tip and left. Please fix the restaurant! It used to be so good.
Ive been to this location a few times and while its in need of a refresh, the quality remains the same. Good food, a fun atmosphere, and pleasant staff from the host to the bus people. Its fun in groups, or just as a pair, but often really busy. Try to pick a time when its not packed for your first experience. Itll give you something to keep in mind when you come back when its really busy and youve got a wait in front of you.
The staff are very friendly. Didnt make a reservation but got seated very fast. Didnt take any pictures of the food because bro and I got so hungry and we ate the food. We ordered the meat lover plus additional ramen. The meat lover had enough meat for the two of us. The ramen was just so so because it was not their main food choice. Overall experience was good and had full stomach after.
I went there last night with my wife and friend for dinner. First of all the place is a bit shabby inside. When you get inside youll notice that the seating areas are all old cracked vinyl and dirty. My shirt kept sticking to the back of the booth. When we got there we had reservations but they couldnt find our reservations because they did not know how to work their equipment. Finally we got a table and as I was walking back I noticed that most of the place has dirty floor boards, scuffed walls, and just overall looked worn and shabby. I also noticed a B health rating when I went inside from the health department so it looks like they should be doing better! If you plan to come here bring lots of money because its very expensive for what you get. Also during the entire dinner process we got lots of plates of foods and the employees kept coming over and grabbing my tongs and throwing meat on the grill. I wish I didnt have to use the tongs that the employees were grabbing to use as my own food service. All in all it was a complicated and expensive experience. Also dont buy the regular sake. Its practically water!
Fun place to drink eat and hangout. Happy Hour was also a great deal.
Great experience! Got all vegetarian options and there were no issues. The experience and process of cooking everything as the meal progressed made the whole social aspect of the meal new and enjoyable. The food I got was great, too, and there are tons of choices and combinations for any dinner to construct their perfect experience. It can be expensive, (however not necessarily by NYC standards), and there are happy hour prices that make it more affordable. Also, the tea is complementary like many traditional Japanese restaurants.
I really like Gyu-kaku, affordable korean BBQ and great happy hour deals. We usually go to the Flushing location and have had a wonderful experience each time. With that said we visited here on a Saturday night and we found the service to be much slower in comparison. When we looked around it seemed to not be as many staff members as opposed to the Flushing location which I think its interesting considering this location probably gets more foot traffic because of its location. The food also seemed to not be as fresh as the flushing location. With that said I would visit again because I love Gyu-kaku but I do hope they are able to improve on these things.
Very cute setting in a glass roofed frame, set meal with added Kobe beef was truly excellent.
Wonderful service and our server Maiverick was so wonderful brought everything out and helped us throughout out the night he’s amazing
Just showed up without reservation so had to wait in the bar 20 mins to get a table. No problem really. Great food and the staff were very friendly and quick to serve us. You basically cook your own food at a grill in the middle of the table. Lots of fun for the kids.
There was an hour wait. But the dining experience was terrific, the staff was cool, helpful and attentive. The menu was full of options, but I left still feeling hungry and smelling like fire and smoke so dont eat here and go somewhere nice after. This is perfect for just hanging out with friends or family. The drinks are really strong and delicious, try the mango.
Ibrahim, our server was great. Very attentive and would come check up on us to see if we needed anything. Food was so good
Love this place!!! Really recommendable for any types of celebration or just going out to eat in general. It’s really fun to cook the meat and the food is very delicious.
Fun experience for a group. We went as a group of 6. We ordered one of the pre-selected options for a group of our size. Lots of food, and everything was great. My only downside that took away a star was the table was not large enough for our group and we were pretty squished in. It also felt like we needed to be constantly eating because food kept coming out fast, and there was limited room for any plates.
I love this Gyu-Kaku branch. More bigger than their other branch in Flushing. I love how the tables are arranged. If you want to see the city view, you can request to be seated by the window. Not only that... if you have someone special to bring on a date.. I recommend asking for the window seat tables :) You can choose to be seated facing the city view while cooking/eating your favorite dishes ^_^Their ambiance is okay, cleanliness of the venue is good. Service crew memebers are nice and accommodating. They have one common restroom which is also clean and pretty big for 1 person (no changing table for babies, but can fit 2-3 persons... if you have kids that need help to go to the bathroom). The food is really good. We ordered the fried Squid Cartilage (also known as Calamari), Avocado Salad + Chicken (you can add Chicken or Tuna. The chicken is a little spicy), Chili Shrimp Shumai (We asked for just the mild Spicy Shumai...-but theres no hint of that mild spiciness, so order the regular one), Bistro Hangar Steak, Shrimp Garlic, Sukiyaki Bibimbap (This was one of the dishes in the happy hour choices). The Bibimbap that I ordered is... more of rice with just a little beef on it.For our dessert, we had the Chocolate Lava Cake with Green Tea Ice Cream on the side and their Yakimochi Ice Cream - a must try! (both desserts are really good and are well presented especially the mochi Ice Cream with different flavors inside).I will definetly come back and recommend this place to my family and friends.
Guy-Kaku chain is always consistent so far. This is the fourth place visited (I’ve visited 3 in NYC and 1 in Miami). The unique experience of the Japanese barbecue is always fun.
Jenny ,Maggie, Fritzi and I visited Gyu- Kaku Japanese BBQ restaurant for lunch. I ordered the tasty beef bowl . The ladies ordered an assortment of different meats, spicy chicken, shrimp and cow tongue. Our lunch first came with miso soup and four very tasty salads. Everyone was provided white rice also on the side.Overall a fun lunch experience. Thank you for a fun birthday lunch.
Great happy hr drinks. Cheap. Food can be expensive
This is my favorite restaurant in NYC!! Always have the best service and food. I won’t get tired to eat here!
As per usual we try to visit Gyu-Kaku whenever and wherever we can. We ended up going for the 4-person menu with our party of six, which was plenty and delicious. It was a nice selection of meats and vegetables with smores to finish. We added some more meats as we desired.Jonathan was very good to us throughout the dinner. However, when our servers changed we were suddenly moved to leave early. Even receiving the bill on our table by other colleagues, while we didn’t even ask for that. Didn’t make us feel that welcome in the end unfortunately.
This is a great place to bring friends or family to bond while cooking your own food. They have various happy hours so always check to see if it is when you go. During the lunch rush, its safe to make reservations so you dont have to wait. Service is very friendly. The area is also well ventilated so your clothes dont smell like BBQ when you go home. They have a reward app that you can download to accumulate points from your receipt that gives you free food or $25 off the next bill depending on the number of points you are redeeming.
Excellent service, great prices, happy hour food menu with large portions (also happy hour drinks), great for families, couples, or friends. So much fun grilling our own food - I look forward to going there again. The employees review with you how long to cook each item so you dont make errors. They also frequently change the grill so the food doesnt stick and it doesnt get smoky from the cooking because the smoke is sucked below the tables
Great experience loved it..Had a wonderful date night and karaoke is right across the street!
Loved the food! Ibrahim was a wonderful server; he was so helpful with explaining everything as it was my first time here!
Hira was a great server, replaced our tray plenty of times and was attentive whenever we needed him
Good food, excellent staff, great experience.
Today was my first time here. Mysister-in-law had a small party for my birthday and it was great. The people are friendly and the food and drinks are great. The prices are very reasonable and the happy hour prices are even better on food and drinks. Overall it was a wonderful experience. I will definitely go back.
A seriously fantastic meal. Hira was great and guided us through the menu options. Tried the Wagyu and it was beyond worth it.
The food was amazing, but grossly expensive. Yes, individually, the meats dont seem to cost a lot until you realize that you arent getting THAT much meat each serving. So as you order multiple to fill yourself up, the tab goes up very very fast. That being said, the meats were very tender and succulent. Cooking them medium-rare yields the best flavor. However, at the $50 per person that my friend and I ended up spending, Ill have to pass on future visits.
1st time here, and I had a heck of a great time. Service was rapid. The quality of food served was surprisingly good, but its self cook, so if its burnt, its on you!
Pony has been awesome . She was so detailed and made our event special we love her so much
Great evening with excellent food and atmosphere
Server Giana was very nice, she always checked up on use. Great experience for out of town friend.
The service staff was great. The food was good and the atmosphere was good as well.
Great food and happy hour (daily 11-5)!
We went here to celebrate a birthday with a group of people. The food was not bad quality wise, but considering the price it was not (good) enough. The idea of the restaurant is to cook your own meat which means its brought out to the table raw. The meat is not marinated or anything. The waited came only once to take the drinks order. Another person of our group had to ask for a spoon multiple times. Considering the price not worth the money unfortunately.
A great place for family/and or friends. We went with two hungry adolescents, and 4 adults. Ate steak, drank beer and ate the whole menu for 2 hours. The marinated cheaper steak options are the best value, and are marinated nicely. 9/10 would strongly recommend.
Ibrahim was spectacular and helped us with our order. He even accommodated my substitution request. Thanks Ibrahim, you rock!
Very enjoyable experience. Nice servers and great food. A little less intimate than the Times Square location. Would recommend making reservations though.
Hira was an amazing server who helped us to understand the menu and gave really good suggestions on what we should order.
Love this place. Always great food and atmosphere. Our server, Boat, was also excellent
