Came to this restaurant on a whim after returning our car rental next door, and was very pleasantly surprised. The oyakodon was absolutely delicious. Savory and sweet with tender chicken and great quality rice. Would recommend for a simple and delicious meal.
It looks small from outside but spacious.Japanese style yakitori platter and noodle menu were great.Warm interior and friendly staff.
Had a bad experience at this restaurant. Our waiter was not paying attention when we were placing our order he was looking elsewhere, we had to repeat ourselves.20 dollars for 5 slices of sashimi is robbery, the tempura soba was good but nothing special either for the price. After our meal finished, the waiter asked us if we wanted dessert, we said no but he still brings the dessert menu.At the end we waited a long time to pay the bill by card, but our patience ran out and we left cash in the check holder and left the restaurant.
Enjoyed the food and the service (special thanks to Joe). Ordered a salmon sushi roll, katsu don, and cold totto soba, and a green tea tiramisu. Enjoyed every bite. (Forgot to take a picture of the soba).
Good upscale general Japanese restaurant in midtown with a large menu selection. Started with some tender yakitori, mixed veggie tempura, love the nigori. Table ordered a variety of ramen, katsy, dons, and stonepot dishes. Were seated in a table at semi private alcove area with lots of privacy. Service was friendly and quick. Adding it to my list.
I know I shouldn’t be comparing it to the sobas I get in Japan, but I was super disappointed with my meal here. The vibes here were immaculate (decorated well); however, everything else was very mediocre. Service was inattentive and felt very cold (except for the lady welcoming people in).I got the duck cold soba set. Portioning was small. The soba was overcooked and tasted bland even in the dipping sauce and the dipping was lukewarm. Should be hot so that it sticks to the noodles when dipping. The duck was tough and chewy.Overall, was left feeling dissatisfied and hungry still.
It was good. The decor in the bar area (the first room on the left when you walk in) is the best spot here. Gorgeous room to be in with a great ambiance but a lot of the chairs are those uncomfortable metal stools.Really busy at lunch time.Lunch menu is different from the dinner menu.Restrooms have heated seats and bidets.I enjoyed the Japanese theme here a lot and appreciated how much they went into it with most things.I had an $18 lychee cocktail which I really didn’t like but I guess that’s my fault. It just tasted like low-alcohol sugar water. It also took quite a while to be ready so maybe their bartender does other things as well (like waiting tables as well instead of being just a bartender)Food was fine but we both decided we would likely order something else next time.
Good food and reasonable price. Recommend try the cold soba noodles
Tempura Soba and Takitori are so delicious! I had so much fun time here. Thank you!
Soba Totto in New York City is a culinary marvel, a sanctuary for those seeking an extraordinary Japanese soba experience. The moment you enter, youre immersed in a world where precision and passion converge to create a symphony of flavors. What sets Soba Totto apart is its unwavering commitment to authenticity. The handcrafted soba noodles are a work of art, achieving the perfect balance of texture and taste. Each bowl is a journey through Japans culinary traditions, an exquisite dance of flavors that captivates the senses. The ambiance is a harmonious blend of modern sophistication and traditional charm, creating an inviting space for gastronomic exploration. Its not just a restaurant; its a culinary haven where soba is elevated to an art form.In summary, Soba Totto is a crown jewel in New Yorks culinary landscape. It stands as a testament to the citys global gastronomic scene, offering a sublime encounter with Japanese soba that is nothing short of exceptional.
It’s over rated and priced….Tried duck soba and duck was so dry and hard. Soup taste just like soy sauce. I won’t go back again.
They have 100% buckwheat soba noodles and a great selection of skewered meats, veggies, and even fish. I love their salmon with mayo and a generous helping of salmon roe. But my favorite dish is a bowl of rice with snow crab, salmon roe, and a shockingly generous (and delicious/fresh) helping of uni for about $30. This place is always pretty crowded but the food is great and service is crazy fast.
Their lunch sets are the best deal. You get to choose your set, protein or seafood, then its paired with salad, hot or cold soba noodles and a small plate of edamame. On this visit, I ordered the snow crab, sea urchin (aka uni) and salmon roe bowl. Excellent. Fresh and delicious. Paired my set with the hot soba, the broth is awesome. Reasonably priced and a hidden gem.
This place is yakitori heaven!!! Tons of variety for those non-yakitori lovers as well… decent prices. Very friendly service. Trendy atmosphere. Some highlights-- Maguro yakke (tuna appetizer - a bit on the salty side but super fresh)- Octopus carpaccio - must order if you love octopus!- Yakitori - beef tongue, stuffed peppers, buto miso (pork belly), hukune (chicken meatballs), chicken heart, negima miso (chicken thigh w scallions), quail egg, --- the pork belly is bomb.com and must be ordered.- Sashimi platter- Sukiyaki soba - on the lighter side for soba! Silky smooth noodles.- Unagi and uni bowl- Green tea cake and black sesame ice cream - beautifully presented- Annin tofu - soft and silky texture
Soba excellent! The light as air fried gobo was a nice surprise.
Their lunch special was great for 15 bucks which came with beef stew over rice and bowl of warm soba plus small salad. The soba texture and taste was quite distinctive.Their una don was very very pricey at $27 though.
We went on a Saturday night at around 6 PM, and the restaurant was almost empty. We ordered a grilled pepper, chicken thigh with rice, and hot soba. All the food tasted okay, but nothing exceptional.
Really love the food ! Authentic japanese. The price also really reasonable! Definitely will always comeback !! Try the fish cake also good 🙂
Service is outstanding!Although the food is fresh and tasty, my salmon and my friend’s eel are small portions in my opinion.
You can call me racists but I believe authentic food should be made by locals. This place offer Japanese food made by Japanese. If you want Mexican food like Chipotle, Chinese food like Panda express at the moment, come next time. They dont have California roll.
Very nice place but it is very crowded around lunch time, so better to do a reservation in advance. I tried cold noodle and fish with rice which were very delicious. Prices are also reasonable for Manhattan.
Soba was ok, didn’t feel like it was anything too special. The Yakitori was also just ok, not as many variety as other places
Great portion, reasonably priced and amazing food. I am not a big fan for soba but I really like the gyu hitsumabushi, its the last dish on the menu. I have ordered it every time I went there.
Nice atmosphere and service, unique food selections. Quality ingredients. Overall a good experience.
Simple and good. The place can be packed a noisy but there are some rooms too if you are a group of 8 for exemple which are far quieter and nice for a little gathering. The food is simple and good with a choice of cold or hot soba (japanese thin noddles)The gozen set is fairly substancial and a good starting point for the hungry ones with soba, tempura, duck, sashimis, rice in little pockets, edamame.
Soba Totto in NYC was a symphony of textures and flavors. The handmade soba noodles were the star, springy and toothsome, soaking up the savory broth beautifully. Each slurp was pure satisfaction. But the show didnt stop there. The sashimi was melt-in-your-mouth perfection, each bite a testament to the quality of the fish. From the vibrant tuna to the buttery salmon, every piece was a taste of the oceans bounty. If youre looking for an authentic Japanese dining experience that celebrates both simplicity and excellence, Soba Totto is a must-visit.
Unfortunately, this restaurant was my least favorite meal on my recent trip to NYC. I came in expecting to order yakitori but was informed by the waitress that more than half of the yakitori menu was unavailable. The jidori chicken karaage was tasteless and the lemon it was served with was completely dry, but at least the chicken was juicy. My one suggestion for improvement is to serve this dish with some kewpie mayo or some form of sauce. The Salmon Ikura Don that I ordered came with six THINLY sliced salmon pieces and a large amount of rice. At least there was a decent amount of ikura to balance out the disappointing serving of salmon. However, for $30 this dish was beyond a rip off. My dad ordered the traditional soba and while it wasn’t horrible, it wasn’t worth another visit. The service was alright, nothing worth noting. For two appetizers, two skewers, one soba, and one rice bowl the total was $103. I was looking for a great authentic restaurant in the city to come back to, but this place was not it. Maybe I’ll give this place another chance if there will be more yakitori options in the future, but I’ll probably just stick to visiting LA for this instead.
Ok so here is the story, my girlfriend and I are new to the city and wanted to try Luke Lobster but after leaving the Uber, we learned we arrived 3 minutes after they closed. We asked where the nearest restaurant was and alas, we arrive to the great Soba Totto 💆🏽♂️. The ambiance was absolutely amazing. We tried the Duck on the special menu, but the calamari was first appetizer. What impressed us the most were the quail eggs 🥚. Thank you for a great experience Soba Totto .
This place is pretty good! Anything to write home about? Probably not. What about a random site for Google Maps viewers to possibly see? Sure. I’m a big fan of zaru soba, and this place hit the spot. The Kamo Nanban was alright; the duck wasn’t too juicy and the broth didn’t really adhere to the soup, but it did have flavour individually; it was the combination of the bunch that left a bit to be desired. The Goma Dare, however, was exactly what I needed, the sesame sauce being insanely creamy and coating every part of the noodle in its entirety. Adding their house-made wasabi made the combination even more holy. Will come back if I’m craving it again.
Wonderful environment and excellent service, I highly recommend getting a few yakitori with your meal. I went for the dinner time and the place gets packed fast right as they open up at 6 so make reservations. You can go earlier in the bar section where they have a lovely and cozy space.
Nasu Agebitashi is good.Tea is served in a nice cast iron teapot.Kamo Nanban - Pretty good - medium thickness sliced duck.Sukiyaki (Hot Pot Style) - I didnt get this, but it is presented very nicely, with the stewed food in a small cast iron pot over a flame and the soba and egg on the side. Not too busy on Mondays after work.
The duck soba and sukiyaki soba we got were really good!
Used to love soba tottos Soba and yakitori. After covid menus has been changed and its not like used to be.
Very common Japanese food youll find in Japan but too over priced, you dont really get the food you are paying for.
Great atmosphere! I highly recommend their $10 meal (only the first 20 people) - comes with salad, assortment of fish on rice, soba noodles.
The service and food was phenomenal. As someone who was raised in Tokyo, this place was a piece of Japan in New York and a must go if you’re looking for good Japanese food.
I ordered warm toto soba and it wasnt good and I think it was because it was authentic. I didnt like the texture or flavor, very grainny and a bit bitter. My sister order goma dame and they only serve cold. It was much better, very chewy and refreshing. The takoyaki was good though!
The restaurant is located near Grand Central in Midtown Manhattan, making it very convenient to reach. Amidst many high-quality Japanese eateries in the area, this one stands out with its focus on soba and yakitori.Personally, I find their grilled skewers very tasty, and the toppings on the soba are also quite good. However, the cold soba tends to be a bit dry and soft, not the best in New York City in my opinion. Ive been more impressed by the soba at other places like Uzuki and Sobaya, which also specialize in soba. But this is just my experience, as others may have different experiences.Additionally, their sashimi is very fresh, and the menu offers a variety of options, making it suitable for a quick lunch or a gathering with friends after work during the week.
We had the Yakitori and the Soba and it was wonderful. I was in the mood for something that was light - but still rich, flavorful, and filling and this did the trick! The noodles are freshly made and the broth is perfection! We loved it!
Have not been back since pandemic ended. Very happy they reopened and still offer a large selection of delicious food. Must haves are, agedashi tofu, hot soba and una ju.
Great spot. Issue with the check, but restaurant took care of it promptly. Highly recommend
One of my favorite spots in the area! Love coming here for soba especially their duck and tempura soba. The yakitori is also quite good. The servers are also quite efficient and polite. Highly recommended especially if you need to be close to Grand Central to catch a train. One thing to note is that some dishes may be a little on the saltier side but nothing too off.
My family and I ate here in July 2022. Excellent authentic Japanese food. The whole establishment resembles a restaurant in Japan from the front door, to the interior, to the service, food and atmosphere. Reasonably priced. This is an excellent choice for a good meal or cool drink.
Everything is perfect except for the order they brought out the food. They brought the yakitori before the soba. I think it might be better if the soba came first
This had been (pre-pandemic) my go-to Japanese near GCT for several years. We had a decent meal but somehow it feels like it won’t be around for long. Prime time on a Thursday night was not even half full yet Resy said no tables available. Weird. My sashimi bowl was meh. The pork katsu curry was nice. Takoyaki was good and karaage was juicy. My beer at $9 felt small. Maybe I’ll give it another try if it’s still around.
Food and environment are good but not service. Server got my husbands order wrong. Also never brought me a salad included with my meal (they accidentally gave to the table next to me and they giggled in delight). Never refilled our water or asked us if we wanted anything beyond taking our initial order.
I had very high expectations for this place, as I heard that it was better than Soba-ya. Unfortunately, it did not meet those very high expectations.Nevertheless, the soba was pretty good, the flavor just didnt seep through the noodles as much as I would have liked. I ordered the Tsuke Cold Soba, which was decent, but the noodles werent as chewy as I wanted. My friends ordered the Chirashi Lunch Set (only 20 a day), which tasted pretty good, and was at an insane price of only $10.The interior was okay, but it didnt feel as pristine and nice as a japanese restaurant should feel. The hot tea was good, but the overall experience wasnt bad but wasnt great either.
Very comfortable place near the Grand central station. It is a little different from the authentic Japanese Soba, but its good.
Great food. Great atmosphere. The menu is very large, tons to choose from even if youre not a huge Japanese food fan. Portions are very small, but prices are decent. There are no free refills so dont make our mistake by ordering 7 ginger ales. The place was packed at 11pm, 90% of the clientele were Japanese, which was a great sign. Its a little noisy, but not too bad. It has a trendy nightclub feel, except not as many people. The place is sma
Super delishhhhh 🤍Authentic Yakitori and Japanese dish 🇯🇵
The food was very good, was pleasantly surprised that the tuna bowl I ordered also came with salad. They give you nicely scented hot towles before bringing you any food which I thought was a nice touch. The ambiance feels very Japanese but not formal at all. The prices were not cheap nor expensive. Would come again.
Ive visited several soba spots in NY, but this one stood out for its variety of soba options. Im a fan of lunch set meals, and they offered them here, which was a plus. The service was prompt, and the waitress was attentive, ensuring I had water and refilling it promptly. The ambiance was pleasant, with a regular sound level. However, my hot soba fell apart, though still edible, while the cold version might be a better option for maintaining integrity. The flavor was enjoyable, not overly salty. I was situated in the main open area, but there are also bar sections and private room areas availableAs for improvements, replacing the cleaning products would be ideal. A staff member used a product with a strong smell to clean the next table. It was just when I was about to eat.Overall, it was a good experience but I recommend requesting a seating arrangement where they can assure that no cleaning will take place while being present.
Everything changed after pandemic, must have been an owner change. The sashimi didn’t look fresh, the beef skewers was too hard. Kind of feeling sad to lose another nice Japanese restaurant.
Yakitori dishes are good but the soba was disappointing.
Horrible service and dining experience. Food are overcooked, skewers are full of black ash. sea uni are not clean, come with Little Rock inside. The chef clearly didnt pay attention to the food. Suggest avoid it at all!! The manager also didnt know the original source of sea urchin and only come up with useless excuses claim the food is clean. I have been there several times, today is the worst experience, everyone sit in the bar wait more than hours but got no food. Todays experience shows the restaurant is zero star!!!
Soba noodles are the main feature here. Veggie option is decent.
Well decorated place with a lot of Japanese comfort foods.Service isnt super fast but still a great place to go for a wide selection.Flavors arent the strongest either so you have a refreshing meal
One of my fav Japanese restaurant around UN. Their Yakitori are very good. Kawa and chicken wings are FIRE! This is Unagi Uni Don, their special don dish, it was DELICIOUS! 4/5 just bc their price is quiet high for the portion and quality. I go almost every month for their yakitoris tho!
Good food with attentive service!Their soba was definitely tasty! The vegetables soba I ordered got a little sweetness and the noodle was flavorful. The grilled meats and mushrooms were nicely priced with a wide range of taste.Their beef tongue was especially good. I don’t like their tuna tartar as it tasted not very fresh to me though my friend liked it a lot.Overall a very good Japanese restaurant with good price. Remember to make reservations or arrive early on Friday night. It is packed!
Best name ever ;p seriously though, this place has the best chirashi lunch special!
Highly recommend coming here for the lunch special. Its a great value. You get chirashi bowl and soba for only $10. It is limited to 20 people so do arrive by 11:30am. Delicious food. The soba noodles have great texture and dipping sauce and broth are good. Much better soba than at the restaurant next door.
My revisit was as good an experience as the previous one. This is a unique experience with interesting food offerings. Small plates perfect for sharing allow exploring the menu. The grilled pepper with chicken and the king mushrooms are specially great. enjoy
I got Tenzaru and Oyakodonburi. Both were not bad....but just OK level. I think they are overpricing regarding their quality of food and service. Talking about Soba, noodle is OK but the soup is a little too sweet or mild. Not solid taste as I was expecting.
Its pretty decent food, service, and atmosphere if you dont sit in the main room. The more private areas and the bar are quieter. The variety of yakitori, soba, and sashimi is fresh properly prepared and at a fair price except for the ones mentioned below. The teba is one of the best and can compare to Torishin. Soba 5 stack was good value but the soba is not the buckwheat style im use to and they skimped on the one dipping sauce considering there were 5 servings. My son loved the grilled salmon which was $18 and didnt come with rice ??? whats up with that. Oh the sashimi was of quality but 9 pieces for $50 thats a little extravagant - Hatsuhanas TOKUJO most valuable ten pieces of sushi selected by our executive chef and one roll is only $49.
It could not have been better. They really accommodated me and it was so delicious.
Ive been here a couple of times. Excellent food and augtntic Japanese restaurant. I loved the yakitori (see pics) and I enjoyed both the rice dish and the hot soba. Yes I tried both! I would definitely go back if I have the chance. The place gets crowded so its best to make a reservation.
Got the chefs daily special which includes hot/cold soba, salad, and pork katsu. The soba noodles were clean tasting and the pork katsu was thick and crispy. The meal was great and filling and paid around $30 for lunch.
Great food. Loved their salad appetizer and the generous portion of Kobe beef lunch with hot miso noodle soup.Be prepared to wait about 10 to 15 mins if you are going there around 12:30 to 1PM. Thats the peak hour and very popular with office goers.
Conveniently located near Grand Central station , this is an authentic Japanese restaurant which serves delicious sashimi , sushi and soba.Love the food here which is fresh, beautifully presented and yummy. Service is good .
I miss the old sobba totto. It easily used to be my favorite goto/recommended restaurant in the city for years. Now I get friends that text me “Sobba Totto has really lost it, everything changed, whats going on?”. The menu has been cut down by at least a third, with most of the favorites gone. Even the cocktail menus became basic and lower quality. service has changed also. Only a few of the old servers are remain (I was told they were let go because most were on student visas from japan), they added to the overall atmosphere and authenticity of the place. The place even used to smell like Japan, lolol . I’m really sad about this direction. I just hope they find a way to fix it. Until then I need to find new izakaya. Anyone have recos?-The above was three years ago, i just went again today, hoping it got better, it got worse. I was served really old beef, and the server acted as if he already knew. The person next to me barely finished their food. Its really sad to see the place down to this level. Yakitori Totto is my new alternative that give great service and value
This place definitely specializes in soba. If you want a bit bowl of steaming noodles, come here! Not great on sushi options, and is rather on the expansive side. Service was outstanding!
We ordered the Kani no Kamaboko, Kamo Nanban, Sukiyaki Soba, Okame Soba, and the Assorted Dessert Plate. Honestly, everything was pretty great! If you ready my reviews, youll know that the dessert plate was definitely my favorite though everything was pretty great. In fact, the soba was probably the most disappointing thing and it was pretty good.Pro Tip: Order the regular size. The large is absolutely massive.
Nice place for some soba sets. It is a bit pricey but I think it was well worth the quality. It seems to rotate a seasonal lunch set, but I got soba with sushi and tempura. It was a lot of food and I left stuffed. Its also one of few places that serve takowasa (and I could actually taste the wasabi!!).
Lively, tasty and affordable, by NYC measures. Be aware that the yakitori (skewers) menu is only available for dinner. Lunchtime options are all bowls.
They are rated B by health department inspection. They no longer sell half soba to go with don. Kaisen don alone is $32 (before tax and tip, making it $41) with small amount of fish. All together its not worth it.
Sad to say that the quality of the food has been compromised, clearly focused on cutting costs. They took away some of my favorite menus, the yakitori is one of the worst I’ve had recently and the soba was served chilled and lacking flavor and authenticity, not fresh at all...
Delicious, authentic, and reasonably priced. Beer and sake are a little pricier than normal, but this is definitely a spot to go if you want good Japanese food.
All Yakitors are really tasty. We tried restaurant week appetizers and Duck soba. The servers are very polite.Nice service and atmosphere.
After enjoying a night at the Japanese Society, it felt like a Japanese dinner was in order. Midtown in the 50s contains a plethora of fancy ones, Izakaya and Ramen Noodle joints all catering to the Japanese businessmen in town. Soba Totto is no exception. On the night we where there the room was filled with soba slurping Japanese businessmen getting toasted on Sake as the evening rolls on.This simple modern wood filled décor has an open kitchen with long rows of banquette table and bar seating as you enter. The back away from the action is quieter but in my opinion not as fun. The front has an active energy from the kitchen and chefs as they prepare the food. This menu is extensive here. There is no sushi on the menu here. This is not a generic Japanese sushi place. What you do have here is a fantastic soba choices hot or cold. Yakitori and small dishes plus a good list of Sake. I think you are almost transported to somewhere in the fashionable Roppongi Hill district. The Soba served have a delicate mild flavor. It can be eaten simply plain or with other ingredients. The broth pairs wholly with it. The Yakitori were perfectly grilled and simply presented for enjoyment. As with establishment of this caliber, dont expect it to be cheap. With 3 people, Soba, 3 Yakitori and sake will reach in the neighborhood of $60 pp(including tip). While I certainly would love to eat like this every night, sadly this is certainly not a casual dinner night unless you have an expense account or part of the UES bourgeoisie.
What a lovely place for a quick lunch this was! Our food was ready very soon after we ordered and it was all incredibly delicious. I would highly recommend the Una Tama Donburi Rice bowl and the Tempura Soba!
I was craving some Katsu Curry for lunch so had to stop by here. Excellent service and drinks as well
It was sooooo good l!Great food nice atmosphere 🥰I recommend Nabeyaki udon
Great place for a few drinks and delicious and authentic Japanese food. Only criticism is that some of the soba dishes were a little small even for a light eater.
Possibly the worst soba Ive had. It gets two stars because at least the appetizers were fairly tasty but only balances out the hard flavorless mochi ice cream which was absolutely terribleAppetizers (4/5)The agedashi tofu was cooked well and had a silk texture but the outside was oddly slimey, when its supposed to be crisp. The hamachi carpaccio was good. Fresh and clean. No complaints hereYakitori: negima and pork belly. Nicely seasoned and fairly tasty. Some of the skewer was a bit chewyEntrees (0.5/5)Tempura soba: the tempura was so soggy. The shrimp itself was cooked well but it was slightly sweet and came just oh so soggy. The broth was salty with no other flavor and the soba just fell apart. Incredibly disappointingKitsune soba: the tofu was too oddly sweet and was a huge turn off. Soba again was not good flavor or textureDessert:Japanese roll cake (4.5/5): nice yuzu flavor. Light, airy, pretty tasty. The inside cream was pretty goodMochi ice cream (0/5): this is by far the worst mochi ice cream ive ever had. The mochi was hard and brittle, yet just so slightly chewy that it didnt have a crunch. The ice cream was almost flavorless and came already a bit melted. It was not good.Definitely not worth the money and would not come back
If you follow us on social media, youll know that Vince loves his Soba Noodles... Something about a lighter meal that tastes perfect makes him so happy. Soba Totto definitely hit the spot for him.The broth is a dashi based soup that you can add your onions and wasabi in for a kick... We recommend doing that and then dipping your noodles in. The noodles just grabs on to the broth and brings it to your mouth... Im drooling typing this, definitely give it a shot@phidingthefam
Great spot for Soba lovers! They have a wide variety of lunch menu, like bowl of rice with a lot of toppings starting from sashimi, chicken, beef, pork and my fave, eel.The package comes with salad, an individual small ball of edamame, entree of your choice and hot or cold soba.At night, they have yakitori or various japanese grill. The price starts from $20 - $30 for food.I dont drink alcohol but I heard they have great sake as well.It sometimes gets too crowded at lunch and you have to wait for quite some times.
Great Japanese food. Very diverse. Hand made soba, fresh seafood
This week I have been here twice.. If I were you I would get here early.. since the daily special is a Chirashi rice dish.. which is actually a really good deal. You can get the daily special for 10 bucks but the catch it that they only make 20 a day.. so I would get there early.. they open for lunch at 11:45.. I think all there dishes comes with a choice of either hot or cold soba noodles which is always a plus.
This place has delicious Yakitori and ultra satisfying Soba. I have been twice and tried the Kamo Seiro and the Ten Zaru Sobas. Everything was prepared with such care and intention. They have an extensive Sake list which the waitress was very knowledgeable about and able to help me decide what to drink with what food I ordered. I had the Black Sesame pudding for dessert... it was amazing!
Food was average.
Fantastic food, including their sushi, appetizer, soba, and etc. I live close by and go there frequently. The service can be hit or miss, had a great experience at times, but also had a very slow and inattentive service even at non-peak time as well.
Large Choi of Yakitori and Soba plus other dishes of Japanese traditions. Short list of cocktails and the one i tried was not bery generous in alchohol. Wagyu Yakitori was overcooked. Limited choice of desserts and quite complete list of Sake.
Went there yesterday and had yakitori and soba. The food and service was really good and loved the atmosphere in the place. Definitely recommend it to everyone.
Its often hard to find good soba in the states but Soba Totto definitely hits the spot. The plain soba was delicious.
Their soba and skewers were amazing. Dessert was also great. Waitstaff are so nice.I would recommend the soba, skewer specials, and chestnut mille crepe. So good.
One of the best soba I’ve ever had. Other items on the menu looked enticing as well - next time I will definitely try their skewers.P.S. The bar opens earlier but the main dining room opens at 6pm.
The taste and amount of food, service and atmosphere and music were so good. If there is one thing I want, chopsticks were too slippery for me as an Asian.
Great kitchen Japanese food
Great spot with pretty good options. I liked the chirashi. I’m not a huge soba fan but the soup is good and the service was fantastic. Will come back again to try deserts.
Excellent Kyoto style soba. Everything is made very fresh. A cozy and intimate setting for lunch or dinner
Small portion of sashimi…. I like it. But I wanted more
The service and atm are great. I only wish my soba noodles were al dente
Been here many times but last night the hot soba came out all clumped together and the cold soba was gritty and breaking into little pieces. hot soba broth was so salty and just tasted like soy sauce. have never sent food back before but the soba was just so hard to eat so we did. was told we would get new ones in 5 minutes, then 15 minutes, then it didnt come out until 30+ minutes later when we gave up and got up to leave. sad to lose another soba place after ise closed for good. goodbye, soba totto.
This is the best yakitori in Manhattan. It is very authentic ambience, well prepared food and well priced. My favorites are the tempura vegetables, eel rice and avocado yakitori.
We go here all the time and get food from the robata. Everything comes out quickly and is hot and good quality. Well priced too. Kind of like a Japanese tapas so make sure you order a bunch. Id do that over the entrees.
Great food. Not the best quality if you compare it to japan but its in nyc so I can bare with it. Food takes a logn time if you go in busy time. But seriously how long can it take to make a soba.. It took me 40mins today..
Absolutely loved my experience here. Came here after a very warm and lovely day playing tour guide for a buddy of mine. He wanted soba. And this place nailed it. The atmosphere was friendly, the prices were very reasonable for the location. And the food was quite delicious. This is a place I will be happy to return too many times if in the area!
Authentic, traditional experience. Soba is a must. Dishes can be bit hit-or-miss for the Westernized palate. Prices are on the high side. Service is accommodating.
Casual yet intimate Japanese eatery serving snack bite appetizers, yakitori, soba, rice bowl, and alcohol. While it may seem on the pricier side, the service and food quality inmediately show through the execution. Everything is carefully and thoughtfully prepared, and the pacing with which food is brought out is on point. A great place to hang out and relax with friends, or have a quiet and enjoyable meal by yourself.
Fish was okay not the freshest but good set meals
Our server tall girl lol was very nice but not the hostess.Would go back again for the server and food.
This place is used to be one of my favorite but recently good quality dropped dramatically, basically just an overpriced average fast food. It’s a soba house, but soba is really really bad
The noodles and food was good...at little bit pricey, but the service is HORRIBLE. We were seated right away but took forever to get anything from these servers. The water alone too a while - had to ask for it 3x.
Soba noodles have an authentic taste, but are a bit bland.
Went on a Sunday evening and there was still a 1 hour wait. Well worth the wait. Uni soba is truely for uni lovers. Cocktails hit the spot.
Im a soba fan but was pleasantly surprised to find that Soba Totto does more than just soba. Theyre also yakitori (grilled skewer) specialists. Great place to linger and chat. Super considerate and helpful staff.
It used to be an amazing place, delicious and just like in Japan. The menu shrunk, quality went terribly down, service is now poor. New owners?
This place used to be great. The quality of soba and staff dropped dramatically. It was not soba. Just regular noodle without quality.Overpriced and place were not so clean. It had “grade pending” for nyc regular checkups... hope they pass the regulation.
Been here twice and I love it. Great food and great service on both occasions. The staff are friendly and courteous and they know the menu, which is great. Totally recommended!
Delicious tempura soba and portion is huge. Staff are friendly and the place is nice.
Ordered the daily special set.. cheap and good.. got a hot towel at the beginning of the meal to clean up... Definitely worth the bang for the buck
Midtown favorite soba place. The food is very flavorful and always fresh, for a fair price. The staff is very friendly.
Its your standard Japanese yakitori and soba restaurant. I had the Cold Tsuke Soba which comes topped with thinly sliced cold pork, nori, grated daikon, daikon sprouts, poached eggs, spicy sesame oil and soy dipping sauce. The food was good. Unfortunately, the patrons sitting right next to me were have a VERY loud conversation and banging on the table. So rude!
Their lunch special is awesome and only 10 dollars. But this item is very limited (only serve 10 dishes per day). Their other dishes are still good though.
This place is great! Flavors were awesome and price is good.I got the:Apps: Agedashi Tofu, SalmonMushroomMain: Soba with YamDessert: Sweet Potato & Ice Cream
Beautiful restaurant! Very relaxing atmosphere between the lighting and the decor . I brought my daughters and friends for dinner it was just two blocks from where we were staying. The menu items all sounded delicious and was excited to try a few things . Some items priced pretty high but I don’t mind if the food is good . We tried a few of the soba dishes and some of the appetizers which all of them were delicious and simply seasoned. May be bland for some people but you appreciate the simplicity of each dish and really taste each item. I really enjoyed everything we had and the staff was great .
Go right when they open and get this chirashi set for only $10. Delicious.
Came here for soba which was great but surprisingly, their tempura didn’t meet the quality of the soba. Pretty disappointing when a Japanese restaurant don’t have good tempuras..
Tempura was very good. Service was awesome cocktails and soba were a bit subpar.
Came here for the soba but got blown away by the yakitori! So good. I need to find another caliber in Toronto. I’ve only tried soba 3x so far so I am not an expert but I like their handmade soba. I got the tempura soba one and the shrimp was really fresh and cooked well.
I was very impressed. I ate the shokado bento for lunch and it was delicious. The food is very authentic Japanese. I felt like I was eating in Japan.
Amazing food .. specially the grilled items were awesome... The time it took to deliver was pretty lengthy though.. the main course item specially eel was amazing.
Good food and service. Ill come back again.
Great food, amazing place
Ton of fruit flies hovering over the bar area. Manager should clean up this issue. Very unpleasant eating experience.
HIGHLY recommend. Wandered over for some chirashi (20 served each day, according to their site). It included salmon, tuna, shrimp, sea bream, masago, and avocado. The edamame were good, the soba noodles were amazing. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked like something I needed in my life. Did not disappoint.
I absolutely love this place. Very, very good dishes and definitely one of my favorite spots on a rainy day.
Good experience
Ambience, food, service, everything is great! The only thing I didnt like is that portions are a bit small for their prices.
Fantastic menu, great service and beautiful warm ambiance, definitely one of my favorite Japanese restaurant.
Excellent food with originality in taste. The sake was very good as well. The variant of the Manhattan cocktail with a Japanese twist was also interesting. The people were very friendly and the service was great. Highly recommended!
Overall, adequate if you are in the area and looking for drinks and maybe some apps. The food overall is weak. Tempura soggy enough that I wondered if it had been reheated; warm ( or hot) soba in a simple broth, very rare shiitake yakitori and and passable negimq, but with no tare to be seen or on offer. Order food here if you’re hungry, but stick to the apps, and don’t come for the food.
Food is great but price is a little high. Yakitori is very nice and the service is awesome.
Excellent! The most authentic nabeyaki Udon in nyc. Also delicious yakitori! Will definitely come back :)
The service was great but the food was on the salty side..and I had to keep drinking water.. I am disappointed and I dont think I will come back..
Awesome yakitori. Try the quail eggs. Delicious! Great selection of Japanese Whiskey too!
The worst sushi I had in my life… Overpriced food with low quality.
Good soba restaurant in midtown. They serve not only delicious soba but also good Japanese appetizers.
The quality of food is amazing !!!!?
Amazing cold soba with tempura! Large menu, attentive service, would recommend.
Wonderful Japanese food with very kind and very nice service. The bar is very nice as well!
Great noodles and rice bowls - a bit on the pricier side but the quality is great.
Outstanding soba, but it also secretly has one of the best sake bars in the city tucked in front.
Ordered one of the daily lunch specials. A bit expensive but delicious
Quality varies, but when they get it right, the soba with duck dipping sauce is brilliant.
I love their limited lunch special which is only $10 and only 20 in quantity available.
Really authentic. Excellent service. Very tasty and fresh dishes.
This is a nice authentic restaurant, but every time I was there, the waiter/waitress made mistakes on our order.
Great atmosphere and the food is very good. Try the desserts, they are delicious.
After worked all day we just take it easy at totto. Sooso good BBQ
Very good soba. Tend to be busy for lunch so go early before 12:30.
Truly fresh and delicious food. I never had this tie of food before, it was great!
Delicious.
Lunch menu
We ordered 3 tsuke soba and amount was for only 1 person
Satisfying and delicious food. Affordable for midtown. Will come again.
One of our favorite Japanese restaurant in NYC. We come here every time we visit.
The veggie ramen was pretty good - I like Ivan ramen veggie ramen more
Good service, food was a bit overpriced IMO. Everything was good, except the tempura which came to the table a bit soggy and warm.
Kind of expensive, but their soba and Japanese dishes are great!
Value for money bara chirashi don on weekdays if you arrive before opening hours
Soba quality went down compare to the past. I heard the chef left that was the reason. Giving it 3 star because service is not bad and price is okay for midtown. I didnt even bother to take photos given food was average.
Was nice, clean and fast. Typical japanese cuisine which was quite good. They take reservations but nit needed if not too busy.
Very large lunch portions, delicious sampler combinations
Extremely disappointed… I came here before the pandemic and it was really good but just went here today and the sushi looked sad I could’ve made better sushi at home… the fatty tuna was not fatty it tasted like farmed tuna at most. Very disappointing 😞
Would recommend yakitori totto over this branch. Very good noodles, but the yakitori was only good enough as a fix.
Yakitori was good. The soba was okay but not very good value. Dishes were also kinda dirty
Elegant place with thoughtful dishes and great execution. Shrimp tempura are large, plump, and tender. Great for a quick, healthy lunch.
Uni soba was excellent. Chu toro was fresh also.
Great lunch menu and specials. Get a lot of food for a moderate price. Soup salad noodles (hot or cold) and a protein. Complimentary tea for the table. Servers were very fast and attentive. Food was delicious. would definitely be back for dinner
This place reminds me of Japanese Izakaya (tavern) and was really comfortable. Yakitori was so tasty and offers a lot of varieties (negima, tsukune, teba, and so on.) Given the restaurant name, it seems that Soba is another signature, but it was not so amazing as yakitoris.
A good experience! Liked it here, it was tasteful and had a good atmosphere.
Our party was given a private room, which was nice although a little cramped. There was a loud party in the room next to us, and the walls are not sound-proofed in the least. Most of the dishes were quite good, although my South Asian taste buds could have done with a little more spice. I had the calamari salad (which tasted different from the usual calamari appetizers, but quite nice) and rice bowl with eel (standard, but good). Overall, a decent meal at reasonable prices.
I been here many times before pandemic. It was a good solid. soba-yakitori place! This is my first time after covid. My draft beer was $9 with a super small glass. Already a change! I ordered yakitori dishes and they were above average in cooking. Waited over 25 min to get my food. Definitely the quality of food decreased after pandemic. I may try again to be fair next time, but changes were quite obvious!
This place is no longer the old soba totto. I think even I can make better soba sauce...
One of the best bowls of soba! Will go again
Superb cooking. Didnt know side dishes could be THAT good
Good atmosphere, got a small private room which was great with two kids and 5 adults. the only thing I didnt like was that most things we wanted to try was sold out. we were there for dinner with a reservation @6. if it wasnt for that i would of giving it 5 stars. food was good.
Fabulous. Fresh . One of the best sushi places I’ve eaten in. Highly recommend. Will be back .
Delicious food and nice atmosphere. Definitely authentic Japanese Restaurant. If you see a line that starts building up around 11:30am, youll know how good they are. The service is very good also. I was offered to Soba-ya which I never heard of and was educated on how they add the water used in cooking the Soba into the soy sauce and then you drink it. It was interesting taste but a bit too salty for me.Also as with most restaurants now, all parties must be present to be seated. Im guessing, they frown upon people joining after youre seated.
Lovely soba joint, I order Cury Nanban Soba. The soba itself just right, good texture of soba.Good service, good place
Some interesting and innovative dishes. Not all of them worked. So 4 out of 5 for flavor. Wonderful polite Japanese service. But only average ambiance, a little crowded and dingy.
Nice place, great service. Food was acceptable.
Soba looked good. But had skewers and ten Don instead. (Tempura shrimp and veg on rice). Not bad. But hard to say I crave a place that isnt specialize in either.
Great lunch food!!
Been there many times, food is great, service is great. Writing review only because I noticed unbelievable (bad) reviews about their service. Ive never had an issue and love coming here for lunch whenever I feel like having a more formal seeing.
Excellent lunch place. Fast and friendly service. Great selection and good lunch specials. Your soy sauce smell upon leaving will be tolerable.
Great food and great service, we will definitely be back.
By far the most reasonable pricing for the top sushi restaurant in NYC. A must try... Again and again. Never disappointed by the quality of sushi at Sushi Yasuda.
