The food was very delicious. The service was phenomenal. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Our server was very friendly and gave some great recommendations. I found the starters were so good, especially the cucumber. I also liked their ume rice ball. The ban ban kinoko ramen was a bit spicy for me but thats just my tolerance. Save room for dessert. I especially liked the signature Tokyo banana. Ive been here a few times now and each time the experience has been fantastic. I really like this restaurant and will continue to return.

Excellent Ramen that was served super hot during a cold winter day. We had the classic Tokyo Tonkotsu and Spicy Tan Tan.The edamame that we got as an appetizer was very unique with plum and red shiso flavors.Tokyo Banana was a little underwhelming. Too much whipped cream and too sweet which is usually not the case with Japanese desserts.

Tonchin is a Japanese Ramen Restaurant. I came here for lunch. We made a reservation. We got seated when we got there. It was a little booth but it was very comfortable. The staff was very pleasant through our meal. It was pretty much packed but we were still able to hear each other talk. We order appetizers the fried chicken wings. Very tasty, a little sweet and crisy. 6 pieces perfect for 3 people. Next was the Tonchin Classic Noodle Bowl which was delicious. It really hit the spot for a soup. The taste was a little sweet, spicy and salty. The ramen was perfect not too hard or soggy. It also had 4 pieces of thin slice pork, 2 pieces of menma (bamboo shoots) half an egg, a piece of sea weed and scallions on the top. The last thing we got was the Mango Kaki-Gori shaved ice. It was huge, cold and delicious. It was too big for the three of us, we only finish like half. They put mango inside the middle of the ice, added more ice to make a big ball drizzle mango sauce on top. Then top in Tonchin honey cream and mint leaf to top it off. It was a wonderful experience. I would definitely come back or try the other Tonchin in the city.

We always have ramen both in HK (we r from Hong Kong) and Japan (the most common destination for HK people). We tried dozens of different ramen and I have to say this ramen is a bit of a disappointment. We tried the classic ramen and the dipping noodle. The soup is nice, not oily, not too salty and with nice aroma. However, the texture of both type of noodles is a bit weird. The noodle in classic ramen is a bit soft, slightly like Asian instant noodles. For the dipping noodle, it is too hard and it cannot hold the soup. The appetizer is nice, but a bit over adapted to American style. Slightly too heavy in taste. For this price they charge, I think they can do better.

Got a table with an hour wait in the evening, went to a bar nearby for a drink, note they only hold your table for 5 mins when it is ready, so don’t stray too far.We went for the chicken wings and gyoza to start. Chicken wings were deeeeelicous, I could have just eaten those over and over. The gyoza comes sizzling, so don’t jump right in, the flavour pops from them, well worth the wait for them to cool down.We finished off with the classic tonkotsu, which was deep in flavour, the in house made noodles are perfect!Great value for money, can see why this has a bib gourmand!

We have been here before but at that time it’s very busy and hype since i saw lots of reviews online. But this time is lucky for us that we got the seat after we walked in. I really love the decor. It’s different from other ramen place. They decorate like contemporary Japanese style. (That made me confused when I find the entrance door to get in lol). The staff is really nice and helpful to introduce us the menu. We decided to order their spicy wings, potatoes salad, classic ramen and spicy ramen. The appetizer tasted good. I love how they fried the wing perfectly and seasoned it well. The potato salad is Japanese home cooked style which i like it. For the ramen the broth is so good flavorful. The noodles are well cooked Al dente. me and my boyfriend really love it. At the end the highlight we come here is Kaki Gori which is Japanese style shaped ice. That made our meal course completely perfect.

Walked in around 330 pm on a Tuesday and managed to get a spot for 2 at the bar (the community table was also available). It was interesting to note that they’ve been given a Michelin recommendation for the last few years in a row. They had happy hour offerings available, but we didn’t order any drinks. They didn’t have any physical menus and no wifi - this gets tricky for those visiting New York from outside the country! We ordered 1 ramen and 1 cold noodle dish. The ramen has a bit of a kick, and it’s really tasty. It contains cashews, which is not something one encounters frequently in ramen. It brought some nice crunch and texture to the dish. It would’ve been nice if they gave a whole egg in the dish instead of just half though. The cold noodles were better than the ramen imo. They are saucy and creamy and the toppings are just right!Would recommend going here to enjoy the food.

I think the food was pretty good but the place is a bit overhyped. The appetizers we ordered, the gyozas and the dumplings were both excellent. Flavorful peppers and juicy gyozas. However, the ramens were just ok. I didnt love the smoked dashi I ordered, and while the tonkatsu was better, it was far from the best and there are plenty of better options in NYC. Also didnt love that they were really trying to get us to leave after we were done with our noodles.

1. Chashu OnigiriThe seaweed lacked crispiness, and the overall presentation was underwhelming, even compared to mass-produced options. The quality fell significantly short of expectations.2. Tonkotsu RamenThis was the most disappointing ramen I’ve had in 2024. The noodles were overly thick and overcooked, resembling convenience store ramen at best. I haven’t been this let down in a long time. It’s truly baffling how this place received a Michelin star. If this is the standard for ramen tastes in america, I’m even more disappointed.

My initial impression was, really do I have to wait for an hour for 1p? Then, I had my name down as I am really craving for a good Ramen since there have so many Michelin awards years after years! Great service by the bar man, I had the chicken wings and classic ramen, they both are excellent! Far above my expectations, wings have the spicy heat but you can still taste the sweet and saltiness at the same time! The Ramen was perfectly cooked, the soup base was amazing not overly spicy as well but you can taste either the heat from the ginger or white pepper! The prices are very reasonable, I can see why they are getting the awards! Forgot to mention, the sakes are good too!Another must try!

Ok. First time here so Ill break down our experience with the food we ordered. Experience may vary from person to person.Original Maguro - Great idea. Too salty.Gyoza - too bland without the dipping sauce + only 5 pieces.Tonketsu ramen- broth - good- bamboo - good- chashu - good- egg - good- noodles - okSmoked Dashi- broth - ok- clams - ok- noodles - ok- egg - goodTokyo Banana - pretty goodKaki-Gori - coffee - very fun idea for shaved ice and good presentation. Might be a little difficult to eat for one person and will start falling apart if not scooped carefully from top to bottom.Overall it was a mixed experience for us. I guess for such a highly rated place, tough to get seats, high prices, and Michelin rated, we mightve had too high expectations for Tonchin. For those going to Tonchin, id just stick with their Tonketsu ramen, regular or spicy, and one of their dessert items. I may or may not come back in the futureFor an updated review if my experience changes later on.

The classic ramen here is probably one of the best Ive ever had. The broth packs a punch of umami. The noodles taste fresh and have a bite to them. The pork is thin and tender. A bowl is more than enough to leave you feeling full, which was a shame because their desserts looked amazing.Like most places in New York, its small and that contributes to a lot of noise.

Tonchin is a must visit for ramen lovers and people looking for a nice and easy meal. The ramen is exceptional and tastes exactly like it would back in Japan, featuring a rich and flavorful broth along with perfectly textured noodles. I personally went for the classic tonkotsu ramen and enjoyed the chashu pork, although it tasted completely different to what I expected. (still good, though)In addition, there is a wide selection of appetizers to choose from ranging from rice balls (onigiri) to classics like gyoza. However, I do recommend maybe just ordering 1 or 2 appetizers as the ramen will fill you up pretty good. In terms of drinks, there is a wide variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks straight from the bar.If you are planning on visiting Tonchin during lunch hours (12-2pm ish), I strongly recommend you make a reservation a few days in advance so you can skip the long wait times and enjoy your meal in a nice, quick and easy fashion. Personally, we did not make a reservation and showed up at around 12:30 on a Saturday, consequently resulting in a 1 hour wait time. If you decide to walk in, you will be seated either at the bar seating (tabletop/counter) or the main dining seating,(tables) depending on the amount of people and whichever is fastest, really. Moreover, the staff are really friendly and will assist you in a swift, but kind manner. The service is really quick and you’ll be in and out within 20 minutes. (excluding wait time, if any)Overall, an amazing casual restaurant that is 100% worth the wait and money. Like the website states, this might well be the best ramen in NYC. Pure gem of a place right here, highly recommend.

Got the japanese 75, edamame, cucumber, shishito, unagi rice ball, and the tonchin classic tokyo tonkotsu. Everything was delicious. The ramen noodles itself had the perfect level of hard chewyness. However, I personally found the broth to be lacking dimension and I didn’t like the ‘stuck in your teeth’ texture of the menma. In addition, the chashu was good but I personally prefer a classic thicker slightly burnt cut.On to the service, we still had to wait about 10 minutes for a table despite having a reservation. The staff is very informative and are great at answering any questions. One disappointing point of the night was when our waiter told us that it was last call and asked if we wanted anything to drink. This lead us to think that just the bar was closing and we couldn’t get kaki gori later on when we tried to order it. Also there’s no physical menus! However if I’m ever in the city again, I would certainly come back here.

The atmosphere is nice ( but loud), the staff were all very nice. We didn’t have a reservation but were still able to be seated in 10 minutes. However the food was lacking flavor. We ordered two different types of ramen, I ordered the vegan one, the broth lacked flavor, overcooked veggies. My boyfriend ordered a spicy one with meat. He got 2 extremely thin slices of meat and his broth lacked flavor as well. We ended up not even finishing our food. We left our bowls and ended up going out to find another place to eat because this place was lacking. We wanted to love it, had high hopes but won’t go back here. The stars I’m giving is for the great staff and interior, but food needs work.

I heard that Tonchin is difficult to get walk-ins for, so I was really excited to get a reservation here. There was a long line of walk-ins when we arrived for our 12pm reservation. The restaurant has a cool modern vibe and good service. Overall there were some things I liked, but nothing was particularly memorable. The kimchi mushroom ($8) was meh and not worth the cost. It was very small, cold, and sour -- just hard strips of oyster mushroom in a chili oil/vinegar flavor. I didnt taste the kimchi flavor. The original maguro ($27) was very good. Lots of great flavors and textures, and everything was cut to the same size. I enjoyed the crunchy bits. The tebasaki ($18 for 6 pieces) had quite big and tender wings. The drumettes had more flavor and sauciness. This wasnt a must-get, but it was decent. The smoked dashi ramen ($22) definitely lived up to its name. It was a rich but not overly heavy pork broth with smoked dashi liquid on top. It was good but not amazing. I didnt love that the bamboo was in a big chunk, which made it hard to eat. The noodles are nothing special. I felt similarly about the tonkotsu ramen.I got the aka drink ($18) which was pretty good -- very floral and good sweetness. It wasnt that big, though -- it had a giant ice block in it.Overall the restaurant has a nice vibe and the food is quick to come out, but nothing would make me come back. The maguro was definitely the highlight.

They serve tsukemen, which is great, but it wasnt as good as the tsukemen I had in Japan due to temperature. My favorite aspect of the tsukemen in Japan is that the broth was very hot and the noodles were chilled. So when you dipped the noodles in the ramen you got a perfect temperature to put in your mouth, but the broth was a little hot still so you could taste it more than usual. The tsukemen which Tonchin offers has warm broth, not hot, and the noodles arent chilled. So it misses out on what makes tsukemen so great.I had the chashu roll (pictured) which was decent. The broth of the spicy tan tan had me seeing god. It brought a tear to my eye. They do a lunch combo that is a good value. We did the salad one day and a mushroom bun the other. The buns were so good but the standout to me between the two was the salad because the dressing was so good. The shaved ice was amazing for dessert! We got the mango both times because why mess with a good thing although the matcha one looked amazing when we saw someone else order it. They even wrote happy birthday in chocolate for my husband on the plate and put a little candle which was so cute and nice!!Our server was super nice and on top of everything! The first thing you need to know is you should have a reservation or plan to wait. When I showed up for our reservation the host was so overwhelmed by walk-ins he forgot who I was between me checking in and tapping on the window to have my guests join me inside.First impressions aside the space is beautifully designed with the kitchen at the rear of the space but open to the dining room so you can see all the action. The menu is slightly different from a typical ramen joint as one of their unique offerings is “rice balls” each being served slightly differently. The shishito peppers are a small but mighty serving. While you only get 10 they pack a flavored seasoning that makes them a solid choice. The gyoza are also unique here as they are served in a hot cast iron pan and a starch broth is poured over them table side making for a nice sizzling platter. Unlike traditional gyoza there are not stuck together but more individual dumplings. They don’t need the chili sauce but you do you. There are three different styles of ramen dry mazemen noodles, dipping noodles, and classic ramen noodles. We tried the Ban Ban Kinoko, the smoky dashi ramen, and the classic tonkatsu. All were delicious. The smoky dashi was super earthy and rich with a slight slickness on the surface of the broth. The noodles had just the right bite and there were at least a dozen clams in the soup.We did not order the shaved ice dessert but it is huge and quite popular. All in all, I was very impressed and will come back to try a few different items. Of course, I will be making a reservation as no one should ever wait 2hrs to eat.

Such a gem in the middle of busy neighborhood. I visited during one of weekday lunch times, when they serve special lunch combos. You can pick a small snack, such as a bun or a rice ball, on top of a main noodle entrees. I would recommend visiting weekday lunch time as well, so you can take a sneak peek at their dish outside of ramens. For my snack, I chose mushroom tempura bun, covered with loads of scallions. They were all big in portion, and fun to look at.For my entree, I went for their Classic Tokyo Tonkotsu ramen, which seems to be their staple choice. Firstly, my eyes were drawn into the unique look of its roasted chashu porks; They looked almost like thinly-sliced fine prosciutto, and they were extremely soft like lightly broiled meat. Unlike thick, overcooked chashu pork slices with a strong flavor at some other places, theirs worked together well with the main broth, just like how noodles did in ramen.Their thick Tonkotsu broth was so shiny that I could almost see the reflection of the room; It rally looked nice with the lighting. Maybe because I havent had the ramen for long time, this was one special experience with each ingredient doing its best job. I would definetely come back and try their Smoked Dashi Ramen next.

Was a frequent customer and recommended many of my friends and clients to visit here.I know bartenders are not waiters. I don’t know how you categorize your staff. But I was nearly done with my meal and my drank then came. Other people seems to have gotten them in a timely matter. Probably the best Ramen Ive ever had. They earned their Michelin stars for a reason, and it shows in every single dish. The balance of each and every broth combined with the fresh ingredients keep the broth breathtakingly rich yet light. My only regret is that I could not fit another bowl in my stomach. Absolutely worth a visit and any kind of wait.

A former Michelin Ramen place. Nice vibe, nice staff, crazy wait 1hr+ (if no reservation)Food: the soup is on the salty side (that’s same as Japan), the noodles is not as firm as I like (the noodles I like is more chewy) The pork is pretty good and the chicken wings are legit.I would avoid the mango ice, not the real thing.Overall, I think it’s overrated because of the food. Food is as good as last time. However the waiter keeps checking us in a frequency that almost feels like she wants us to rush up and finish the food so she could clean the table to serve more people. She checked three to four times even when we still had food on our plates. This is my second time visiting and its not a nice experience. Foods are great as always though.

Stopped by here pretty randomly. But was pleasantly surprised to find out many Michelin ratings they had. The wait was about 20 minutes on a Sunday in the middle of the day. The Ramen was amazing, portion of the content inside was a little bit on the lower end I would say, which means you can definitely get a little appetizer and not need a midwife to leave the building.Overall, it’s worth the wait and the Michelin nominations don’t lie.

A THOUSAND TIMES YES!Seriously, this has to be on the top three on my list of best ramen shops in the world (#1 being Ichiran in Tokyo simply due to novelty and flavor).A friend of mine highly recommended this place to me and while I wasnt fortunate enough to come to the actual location during my trip, I did order it via DoorDash and had it delivered to my room.Whenever I order soup via food delivery options, I never really enjoy it because I love hot temperatures for my soup and its never the same. Luckily I was in a hotel room that actually had a microwave so when this bad boy was heated up it was absolute perfection. The edamame was perfectly seasoned and I love how it even came out with a little how-to sheet.Overall, I would definitely recommend trying out the tonkotsu ramen and I certainly plan on dining in on my next trip to NYC.

We went for a weekday dinner and it was clearly popular. We were seated at a communal table by the service counter that we shared with two other parties.Apps: Shoestring potatoes, Shishito peppers, and Ban Ban chicken from the Pick 3 Bites Sampler option. Shoestrings were delicious and crisp, peppers had sliced garlic that was perfectly fried, and the chicken was a chilled app, but so tender and flavorful.Buns: The chicken tsukune bun was the best (it does have pork though). The fried cod bun was good, more delicate flavors than the punchy chicken one.Wings: I didnt think Id like the curry cheese wings, but I ended up liking this more than the spicy wings. Get it, you wont regret it.Rice Ball: My brother ordered these and I wouldnt order either again. Not bad, but plenty of other things on the menuTsukumen: This was delicious. The Q of the noodles was on point. I would order again if I was only interested in an entree, but I think the small plates outshine everything else.Vibes: There are a handful of booths, a communal table and bar seating. It was full but I could still hear my friends and have a conversation easily. All in all, Id come again and highly recommend to friends.

The best ramen that Ive had in a very long time! The noodles are the perfect amount of bite, the broth is very rich and unctuous, and the pork is delicious. I love how thin the pork is so that the fat is evenly distributed in every bite. There were also thick chunks of bamboo shoots, which are usually not my favorite but the thick cut made for a really interesting texture. The perfect ending to this umami-laden meal? The finely shaved mango ice with sweet honey cream on top and bits of mango fruit hidden in the middle. I was thinking about that dessert for hours after. I ordered their chicken wings and tsukemen (cold ramen that you dip into a hot, extra-savory broth). the chicken wings (per recommendation from my waiter) were extremely delicious and flavorful. as with many japanese eateries the choice of seasoning is unique and creates a new experience that your brain is delighted by. the chicken wings came out hot (though in my opinion slightly over cooked), but the seasoning won me over anyway— the flavor has a sweetness coupled with white pepper. the tsukemen was extremely delicious. the broth is near perfection and the noodles were the perfect texture. the egg had the perfect runny, lava yolk texture and the meat was overall decent and helped enhance the pork-forward flavors. all in all i’d highly recommend checking this place out.

Had an awkward service experience. My mom, who doesn’t speak english, accidentally ordered still water as she wasn’t offered tap. I told two servers to correct that before the water came to the table. Once the water bottle came, I told them again and didn’t let them open or pour it for us. The waiter then came over and started accusing my mom, I explained that she doesn’t speak english and that I told the team multiple times before the bottle came, and even didn’t let them open or pour it for us. She started telling a sob story on how it couldn’t be voided and that it would have to come out of tip and employee money. I assured her I’d be happy to speak to the manager to explain the situation that it’s not my mom’s native language so the bottle could be voided and not impact her. She said no, I’m the manager. The ramen at tonchin is good. I think their customer service could be better. The server was really nice and friendly. But the kitchen sounds really rude. I paid $2 for my chilli oil and didn’t finish it and I also had a lot of left over ramen. I wanted to pour the chilli oil in my ramen to take home (I like it spicy) but the server cleared it before I could say anything. So I asked her if she could just give me a tiny bit on the side with my packed leftovers and apparently the kitchen said I would have to pay $2 AGAIN even though I had plenty left over but it was cleared so fast before I could let the server know. The server was definitely in a hurry to clear tables which I understand but we hadn’t even sat for an hour yet. I don’t think it was the server but the policy/culture of the restaurant. I just think for such a well known ramen spot the customer service could be a lot better. To disappoint a customer over $2 that they technically already paid is shocking and isn’t an establishment I would want to go to again let alone refer someone to go to.

Tonchin Ramen hits the spot with a flavorful vegan miso ginger ramen. The rich, savory miso broth is balanced by a pleasant ginger kick, making for a complex and satisfying slurp. While some reviews mention the broth being on the saltier side, it can be adjusted to your preference. The ramen comes with a variety of toppings, including corn, wakame (seaweed), and soy meat, that add textural contrast and depth to the dish. Price is medium and food is heavy for my taste to be honest to go too regular but nice once in while. Restaurant is clean and wait is never too long. Servers are friendly. $2 for the chili is kind of odd and should be free but ok. The spicy tan tan is tasty but too spicy in my opinion not in good spicy way but like tangy hot spicy way. While the atmosphere, waitstaff and overall experience was great the ramen is barely good enough to justify the price…Both the tokyo classic and the smoked dashi offer lots of flavors but the saltiness made us chug the whole jug of water like our life depended on it.That’s not to say they’re bad - but they’re just not offering anything that I can’t get from a $15 ramen bowl. The soup and the noodle are both average - the bamboo shoot were also too thick and hard to bite into, if I’m being picky - but then again, I’m being critical because of the price. I do like the thin sliced smokey chashu pork (which you had to order additional because smoked dashi doesn’t come with one - it’s $5) The tempura bun however, was delicious. There’s just something about paying $25 for a bowl of decent ramen that doesn’t sit well with me. I think 3 star is too low but I can’t give it a 4 so here we are.

We ordered some ramen, I got the smoked bonito one, and my bf got the dan dan noodles (Idr the names of the dishes anymore), and for the app we also got the chicken buns. The presentation of everything was very nice although if I was being picky, I would say I’ve seen better and prettier ramen plating, my ramen egg was face down in the broth :( it was still delicious though. We also ordered the mango shaved ice which looks impressive, and taste wise was nice, i wish the mangos were sweeter. I paid for extra mangos despite the waiter’s warning that it already comes with mango pieces, I thought having more would be nice but for the price, I regret it. $3 for like a 1-2 tablespoons of small diced mango pieces? So this had been our daughter’s favorite place. She was recently admitted to the children’s hospital and we were excited to know that her favorite ramen place was nearby. They don’t deliver or take online or phone orders, so I took a taxi ride, ordered and waited for the food. I arrive back at the hospital and the order is completely wrong. After a long and stressful day at a hospital, this is not ideal. The restaurant only offered for us to come back and pick up the order they messed up. No offer to deliver the correct order given the circumstances. Was told the manager would give us a call with a remedy and after 40 min, I had to call back for her to say there was nothing they could do accept a partial refund. This place is too expensive to make these kinds of errors with no real options to fix them. I could accept mistakes being made, but it is unacceptable to not have an appropriate remedy for customers. [update] Days later, my credit card statement does not read that there was a refund. Instead, they charged me twice. I called to speak to the manager, explained that I was charged twice and was told “she is on her break.”

And for dessert I had the mango shave ice. Too bad that it didn’t have a spoon of ice cream with azuki beans and top it up with condensed milk, just like in Hawaii. I will be back.

Service was very attentive and the interior design is tasteful, which is the two best aspects of my experience here. A pity for a place whose primary focus should always be food. At the prices charged for the Tonkotsu ramen the execution is not up to par: the broth is rich but lacks the deep umami flavour typical of pork bone broth. Instead it is just numbingly salty. The paper thin slices of chashu are also very unsatisfying - if I wanted deli cuts I would have gone somewhere else. The N/A cocktail and shishito peppers were nicely presented and tasted great, which saved the experience for me. For a $50 meal there leaves much to be desired, especially when the signature dish is the most disappointing feature of this experience.

Great new ramen place in midtown. Entrance is easy to miss, since there isnt a large sign hanging outside. The interior decoration was contemporary and everything fit into its very simple and clean cut color theme; from the menus, to the bowls, to the coaster, to even the bathroom! Got the smoked dashi, which was served quickly. Broth was fully flavored and not greasy at all. Service was quick and staff was very friendly.

A step above in excellence. The ramen, wings, shaved ice and even salads are just a bit better than youd expect - even for someone who is used to excellent ramen and has traveled a great deal. Though perhaps slightly oversalted tonight, the curry cheese wings were unique, bright, and balanced white pepper heat, curry, and delicately laced grated cheese. We loved the ramen - the spicy one was particularly rich and had a lovely balance of nutty sesame. Even the yakiniq salad was surprisingly flavorful and huge! Bright, spicy, and bitter greens, with sweet, thinly sliced beef on top. Wow!Finishing off the night with a crunchy icy, light strawberry cream shaved ice was just perfect between the 4 of us. Light and not too sweet, with a perfect balance of a milky creamy top, and fresh strawberries. This is what Ive always hoped to have at a typical asian dessert house but elsewhere they drench it in syrups and way too much sweetener. Ill be back soon! Thank you for an amazing night 💕

Tonchin is the newest Ramen important in NYC from Tokyo. The space is nicely designed, although if youre gonna be waiting, the front of the restaurant might be a little cramped. I tried the Smoked Dashi Ramen with pork broth, egg, smoked fish oil, clams, and mizuna leaf. My waiter warned me this particular ramen might be fishy, but I loved it! The noodles are made in house and I dug the texture. The egg is flavorful but wasnt as runny as Id normally like it. The drinks were pretty good too, although could use more alcohol for the $. A solid debut!

Loved the tonkatsu ramen for many reasons. First, the broth was a super deep in flavor and I enjoyed that it wasn’t overly salty (I usually ask for low sodium option if available.). I also really enjoyed the meat which is thinly sliced like hot pot meat vs the thick round cuts. I liked that it was easy to eat in one mouthful and the thinness kept it super tender.

Good experience having their classic tonkatsu ramen here. Broth was a little on the saltier side left me sculling water, but had a good depth of flavour, the meat, egg and bamboo in there were cooked well and complimented the ramen. I’ll be back for sure. 8/10 ramen

A nice pop in. Wait time depends on the day but the food is delicious. Went with my picky taste bud friend and he loves it. Ramen. Amazing. & they have these buns. Love.Dim lighting. Coupling music. But if the place is full enough you barely hear it because of the chatter but its not overbearing. For 2 people we spend about $60, not including tip. Worth it for sure. * its easy to miss if you dont look up for the flag they have outside so keep a sharp eye.

Located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, Tonchi Ramen is a vibrant, modern noodle bar that has quickly become a top destination for Japanese quick bites and drinks. With a menu that caters to both traditional and vegan palates, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.During our visit, we sampled the dipping noodles and the vegan ginger miso ramen. The vegan ramen impressed with its hearty mix of corn, bamboo shoots, and sliced green onions, all brought together in a robust, well-balanced broth that was both satisfying and flavorful. The dipping noodles were cooked to perfection, achieving an al dente texture that remained smooth and clump-free. Paired with a rich, tonkotsu-based dipping sauce, enhanced by the nutty aroma and texture of baked sesame seeds, this dish was a standout. We also tried the eel over seaweed rice, which did not disappoint. The rice was flawlessly cooked with just the right firmness, while the eel, glazed in an umami-packed sauce, brought the dish to life with its bold, savory flavors.Tonchi Ramen’s meticulous attention to detail and bold, expertly crafted flavors make it well deserving of its Michelin star. This is a spot you won’t want to miss. Highly recommended!

I had the Spicy Goma Tsukemen and the Shrimp Rice Ball. The Shrimp Rice Ball was surprisingly nice. The Spicy Goma Tsukemen itself was a hit and miss. The soup was excellent, perfectly seasoned. The noodle/ramen itself was so average, it was like something that you could buy at an Asian shop that would cost you a dollar at most. Shared a dessert with my friend; we had the Mango Shaved Ice. It was okay I suppose. Service was excellent though. Very attentive waitress.

We have always love this place, but our latest experience was shocking. There were rules after rules that was presented to us.No outside water, order food before everyone else is here, don’t play with the candle, minimal amount spend for each person is $20, no check can be given before the table is clear, etc.I have never heard any of these rules before! I would love to come back again, but after this experience, I doubt I will would go back any time soon. I will not recommend any other people to come.We brought two young children, and made a reservation ahead (to ensure there’s a seat, and kids won’t have to wait long to eat). But because we made a reservation for 4, each of us needs to spend $20.It is not about money, it’s about ordering food that we don’t want. Because we were short with the money requirement, we were forced to order a dessert, which NONE of us liked. The extra mango was way TOO sour, it’s not ripe when they cut it; they must have treated it because the mango has a weird texture.I doubt I would go back due to the service and rules. It’s a shame, because the food was good (except for the dessert). All these rules discourage us to bring kids, or to make reservations. The restaurant used to be packed, but it was only 2/3 full on a Friday night. Until I see any changes, I won’t come back again.

We started with two appetizers, the first chicken wings with curry and cheese and the second chicken bun. They are both delicious, although I must say that a chicken wing was half raw inside, and the combination of a cheese and curry, plus the addition of salt they make, leaves the piece a bit salty, even so, it seemed ok.As a main course, I chose a Smoked Ramen with clams ... delicious.

Our visit to Tonchin NYC was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we stepped inside, we were enveloped by a warm and inviting atmosphere, blending modern design with touches of Japanese tradition. The culinary experience was a true celebration of Japanese cuisine, each dish masterfully crafted with a balance of flavors and textures that left our taste buds in awe. The smoked dashi ramen was a standout, with a rich, velvety broth that tasted like it had been simmered for hours, perfectly paired with springy noodles and smoked fish oil.The appetizers, such as the gyozas, Tokio rice ball and Tsukune buns, were equally impressive, showcasing the chef’s dedication to using the freshest ingredients. Their inventive cocktails added a modern twist, complementing the meal beautifully. I liked coctail Dante with a perfect touch of bitterness. The staff at Tonchin were knowledgeable and attentive, guiding us through the menu and ensuring every moment felt special. It was evident that every detail, from the presentation to the flavors, was designed to deliver an authentic yet elevated experience.Tonchin NYC is a must-visit for anyone seeking an unforgettable journey through Japanese cuisine. For being a Michelin-recommended place, I was surprised at how easy it was to get a reservation!Good:- Huge fan of the buns here! We got a miso cod one that was just so tasty and unique in terms of the ingredients too - perfectly flakey and not soggy.- Super efficient service - really quick at taking orders and getting you in and out- I was a fan of the summer cold ramen - liked the chashu pork version a lot.- Cute how they give you an apron to wear for the soup.Bad:- Super salty dishes - I took home some leftovers that tasted great but also I wasnt sure how much more of it I could eat since it was so so salty.Overall had a good experience, the place is really beautiful and had a dimmer lighting so it felt really fancy yet also casual since its ramen.

I have been so excited to try this place after seeing tik Toks and reviews and I was so underwhelmed and disappointed. I reserved and got in right away. Sat at bar but did not drink..none of cocktails screamed at me. I got lunch special with the salad. And sad to say the salad was the best thing about my visit. Their ginger dressing is very good. I actually asked for more and got a side of dressing to take. The ramen was meh. I added spice but it was not spicy at all. The pork looks like thinly sliced ham you get at the deli. Was not a fan at all. The egg was perfect. Broth ok. Noodles were thick and curly. I asked. For thin noodle but was not able to change it. I got spicy wings to go for my new Yorker fiance. He actually described them as trash. I had high hopes for this place but left highly disappointed. New York has other ramen spots that blow this place away. Service was good.

My very most controversial take yet: this is the best Ramen in NYC.Hear me out - before you come to my house to toilet paper the trees 🧻 🌳 - Tonchin’s ramen is the very best in NYC. It’s the most rich, most flavorful. Ichiran, Ippudo, don’t hold a candle to Tonchin. Karakatta in WV comes close, but still not as good as Tonchin.I had the spicy Tan Tan, $@££¥ got the Classic. Hers was earthy, brothy, just a perfect bowl of perfect noodles and warmth. Mine was really spicy, hearty (ground beef inside was chef’s kiss) and filling. No need for sweets afterward, although we did get ube and Thai Thea a street or two over after.Their Old fashioned with a mushroom? Not my favorite but I can’t stop thinking about it…

Tonchin is a way for me to experience food that is at once unique and exciting, yet also tugs me back to my childhood in Japan — of gathering warmth from pillowy steamed buns in the winter, of celebrating summer with matcha kakigori (shaved ice) topped with azuki beans. I think I’ve been here so many times because it’s a way for me to experience my childhood again and to proudly share those memories with my non-Japanese friends as well.I recommend everything on the menu, though we always order the edamame, shoestring fries, shishito peppers, tsukune buns, chicken wings, tsukemen with extra egg (to share for two), and, of course, matcha kakigori to punctuate our meal with a tease of summer in Japan.

I ordered the tsukemen and it felt quite oily without any richness. The noodles were not it for me, a bit too thick and full of wheat flavor. The meat also had a weird aftertaste to me. The kind of flavor you get when you reheat pork. Of course that was just one dish Ive had so Im willing to come again if it was only an issue with food.Service was alright but I felt rushed. Giving me only an hour for the community table seating, I ordered just the 1 dish and waited 25 minutes for the food to come out. That just leaves me about 30 minutes to eat.The interior was pretty, but the music was pretty loud. It made it difficult to hear the servers and I just nodded to get them away.Overall, I dont think its a bad place and Im willing to try them again. I just didnt like my experience this time around.

Tonchin’s Classic Tokyo Tonkotsu Ramen is by far the best ramen in the whole of NYC, and well worth the 1 hour wait (we foolishly did not make reservations but it was still worth it). It is so good that I honestly can’t describe it, but what I can say is that it tastes like ramen that you would find in Tokyo - the ‘Tokyo’ in the dish’s name is really apt. However, I was rather disappointed by their service during my most recent visit. The staff for that shift were rather impatient and were subtly rushing us to finish our meal. Within a period of 15 minutes, they asked us 3-4 times if we were done with our bowl even though we were clearly not done with our meal (my bowl was still more than half full!). Additionally, when we were making payment, the staff member who was facilitating the payment pressured us into giving a tip that was unreasonable and more than what we were comfortable in giving. It was a real shame that the poor service spoiled what was otherwise a delightful culinary experience, especially since we know from prior visits that Tonchin’s service is usually much better.
