My friend and I Joe had such a lovely evening great music and drinks by my new favorite Bartender Paula. Shes was phenomenal very attentive and handcrafted cocktails to make sure we had a great time
Swing’s bar was so fun! Paula, the bartender, took immaculate care of us, drinks were DELICIOUS and it was a joy chatting it up with her! The live music and entertainment in the dining room area rounded out the ambiance perfectly in this cool jazzy joint. Def try it out! -S.Wing 🫶
Our first night of our NYC vacation and this place did not disappoint at all. The band was amazing. The staff was very attentive and gave us great seats so we could see and enjoy the band completely. It was a pretty slow night. We were told it was probably the heat. Not a problem for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner which included the Vesper drink (the only pic I have of the food), House Gin & Tonic, Rigatoni and Shrimp, Orechiette Pasta and, of course, NY cheese cake.
Yesterday, my husband and I visited this venue, which initially gave us a good impression, but we soon realized it was a letdown. First of all, the atmosphere was lacking because we arrived on time for the show, but the musicians were still doing their sound check and setting up the stage. We had already paid $20 each for the show, and then we were required to spend an additional minimum of $35 per person just to stay there. This wouldnt have been difficult if the cocktails didnt taste so bad. The quality of the food and alcohol was poor, which we had no choice but to consume. The band was nice, though. We ended up spending $140 for two people to hear the concert, have three cocktails, and a plate of costume with spicy sauce.
Swanky! We enjoyed ourselves for sure. However, this place is for jazz fans! The food was good, the service was great and the talent was amazing. If your seated in the performance area, you need a flashlight to read the menu as the ambiance of this place is dark. There is a $30 musician fee added to your bill. They auto ad your tip, however they were very good to tell you they were adding it. I also noticed that other restaurants in NY also did this. It was an experience for sure. Not sure I would go back but if your into jazz, check it out.
Had such a nice time here on a Friday night! The club has 2 sets of live jazz every day of the week 5:30pm-8:30pm and 9pm-12am, except Mondays, and a nightly swing dancing class at 8:30pm taught by a professional instructor! Even if you have two left feet, you can come and enjoy the old timey New York vibes of this place and music alike. Everyone was dancing and people seemed so happy enjoying the singers and music! Be aware that there is an additional cover charge if you sit and dine in the main jazz room.I especially love that they have a $50 pre-fixe dinner menu that includes 3 courses of food! I enjoyed the mussels and steak while sipping on the Swing46 cocktail. Be sure to also check out their $65 bottomless brunch menu that includes a brunch starter, entree, drinks and music charge!
I have never enjoyed a bar more. The live orchestra was amazing, and the band and crowd alike all seemed as if they were enjoying themselves. Dancing is encouraged, whether you know how to or not. The drinks are well mixed, the staff was all personable and friendly. The atmosphere was inviting, and everything clean. I will absolutely be coming back my next visit to NYC, and anyone who plans on visiting should plan some time to visit this quaint spot.
If I had the option to give it 10 stars, I would. What an amazing experience. The vibe, the music and the food were all fabulous. I highly recommend Swing 46!
Visiting from Upstate NY, and we walked by after dinner on 46th St. The music from inside drew us in. Phenomenal service, music & vibe! We came back for a second evening of drinks and music. Cant wait to return!
Fun place and I live in NYC and its a very fun place to dance. One time the drinks were ridiculousky weak, like no alcohol. This may be part of theie business model but for locals who could be regulars, but a great service vibe.
A great place to hear big band jazz every night of the week. I especially like Wednesday when the Kevin Blancq Big Band is there. Good is good, bar is pretty standard, intimate, cosy atmosphere overall.
My go-to activity whenever I visit the city! Be prepared to travel back to a nighttime world where the music is as hip and swinging as it could be. You will be transported into a 1920s atmosphere as soon as you step into the place. The jazz performances, cocktails, and vibe were immaculate. Im currently working overseas, but reminice often of this place and have made a promise to myself that Swing 46 will be one of my first stops as soon as Im back in Manhattan.
Amazing jazz experience! Its my first time in New York and Ive tried that bar for the 1st time and is amazing.Staff is very gentle. Nice cocktails. The music is amazing, very good interaction with the public.Small place to dance but still good.Good singer and amazing orchestra! :DI recomend to try15$ enter.I will come back for sure.
Swing 46 has been a home of jazz and swing for many years and they are reopening inside dining on Valentines Day and I am so excited! Dont miss out on experiencing this amazing venue. Several nights a week they offer big band music and other nights quintets and trios. There is something for everyone! The staff and crew will make your experience wonderful. In the summer time, the patio offers trio happy hour jazz and beautiful beverages and delectable food.
Swing 46 is a jazz restaurant located in the heart of the city, that has a spirited and frisky energy, while managing to be very intimate and classy, making it perfect for a date night. As you enter Swing 46, you are greeted by lively and upbeat jazz music being soulfully delivered by the band and phenomenal singer!! They offer two dining areas: the front room, which has a $15 cover charge, and gives you front row seats to the live band; and seating along and across from the bar area. I had their 3-course pre-fixe dinner, which costs $60 and offers a great selection of options for each course, which did not disappoint at all!! They also offer a unique selections of specialty cocktails that you will be sure to enjoy.
What an amazing place. I really enjoyed the live music 🎶, the swing dancing, the ambiance, and the food.Celebrated a birthday, and it was great!!
Great night here, watched George Gee and his Swing Orchestra. Great musicians and music. Venue was good and service great. Would recommend this evening to big band fans for sure!
Had the set menu for 60 dollars. Between 5and 9 its 15 dollars each for the band if youre there after 9 its another 20 dollars each they will add it to your bill.we were there till 9 with drinks and food 320 dollars we really enjoyed it
-Cool place. Had a nice theme. But seems to have a much older crowd.-Drinks were very expensive $$$.For only 5-6 drinks, the bill was $80 plus tip.-And we went as a group of 4 ppl on a Wednesday night. & The place was deserted.-Maybe on other days its more busy, but it was slow with much older ppl on a Wednesday.
Great cocktails and music! Highly recommend visiting this hidden gem. Go for the jazz. Go for the drinks. Sit at the bar! Go for life!
Good atmosphere, great music. Food and drinks were good. I felt that the staff was short the night I went. It seemed like there were only two waiters for the whole floor, service felt a bit slow. Overall, still a great place to enjoy live music.
We heard the music while walking down 46th and had to stop for appetizers and a drink. The outdoor seating area is beautiful and makes for a wonderful atmosphere. The food was fine, but the ambiance is what makes this place.
Food was alright and the pre fixe looked well priced. We did ala carte pea soup which was really good. The service was super slow and drinks could have been better Great music and they charge $10pp for it.
Nice atmosphere but some of the audience was quite pretentious. Maybe I was there on a bad day.I liked the vintage feel of an old schools Jazz and Dinner club.
I will definitely not be going back here, nor would I recommend it to anyone, friend or otherwise. My boyfriend’s steak was terribly prepared, my pasta had something wrong with the sauce where I had to pick out the garnish because it tasted terrible. We ordered the same appetizer and dessert as the table next to us but they got more food than us somehow. As for the Jazz they were talented but it wasn’t what we expected.Overpriced and not a good experience
This is a wonderful place. The band was fabulous, and we lots of lovely, fun people here. I was commenting that I havent had this much fun in years! What a gem of a place. The cocktails were great!1
Lovely bar, beautiful music. We only had a drink, so can’t tell about the food. But I can recommend their post prohibition old fashioned .
My partner and I walked in for dinner. We were told it was a $15.00 per person cover charge to sit with the jazz band out the back. I declined and said we werent interested in the show especially as it was already running, just dinner. We were told sure, we could sit at the bar. I said nah, whats wrong with the empty tables up front? Nothing, so we sat there. Took another 5 minutes for someone to check on us. We ordered the rib eye steak. Im not sure what the steak was that they served but I can assure you it wasnt rib eye. It was a poor quality cut of fatty meat.We ate what was edible, which wasnt much. Asked for the bill and went to pay. Their machine wouldnt accept pay waive from either my phone OR the card. I instructed the staff to remove the automatic 22% gratuity as I was not paying a tip for poor food and poor service. Glad Im a tourist because I would never eat here again or recommend the place to anyone.Rude, terrible, expensive.
Disappointing Experience Due to Hidden ChargesI visited Swing 46 with high expectations, but my experience was overshadowed by an unprofessional practice: hidden charges. Although the food was good and the atmosphere pleasant, I was very disappointed to discover additional charges on the bill that were not mentioned beforehand on top of the huge prices. It’s disheartening to see a restaurant, which should provide a positive experience, choose to apply such fees without informing customers before they order. This lack of transparency negatively impacts the overall impression and, unfortunately, makes me hesitant to recommend this place to others. I hope management will address this issue because they risk losing many customers otherwise.
I have performed and hung out there it is fantastic. Go and support live music. Jazz and swing.
Decent food, great drinks, fun place to listen to timeless music.
This place was AWESOME! The host Steven was the best! Do glad to have had this experience while visiting New York!
My husband and I had a delightful and memorable evening out at this venue! We had dinner first, and the food was delicious! My husband raved that his steak melted in his mouth, and my chicken was really moist and flavorful. The fresh raspberry sorbet was so good that we opted for a second serving. We stayed for the big band music and swing dance lesson-- so much fun!
A bit pricey but great fun! We went in for live music and ended up doing a swing class. We had a great time. Service was spotty, but they were super busy, so Im not going to ding them for that. If u r expecting luxury, this is not the place. Can tell there were some usuals.
Too expensive! We only ordered 2 drinks each and payed 105$!
Nice staff and nothing wrong with the service but the food was way over priced and the fact that they applied a forced 18% gratitude when your not even happy with the food just feels wrong. We wish we would have went to another place.
Spectacular place, live Jazz with early 20th century vibe. There s a dance stage at back with coverage.
So fun . I came to celebrate my birthday & had a wonderful time. They treated us to a live band playing greats like Duke Ellington , Count Basie, and they gave us a complimentary swing dance lesson. I had a blast ,would highly recommend.
Fantastic jazz, good food, minus one star for slow/inconsistent service, but overall a great place for good jazz and drinks. Very talented musicians!
I came on Sunday with a few of my friends. We sat by the bar lounge. Our waiter Arif was very attentive, even on a busy night. I will definitely come back with more of my friends.
Meh. Really small crowd in a large space didnt do much for the ambiance; otherwise, the group I saw that night was pretty good. Horrible food, though. I had tickets to go back the next night but didnt return.
Great service and the show is very good!!!The people are amazing you feel like home
We had a great time. Great venue, 2 big bands, and swing dancing. On the pricey side. One star off for adding an 18% gratuity, and suggesting on the check an extra 20-30% gratuity on top of that. Could be just me, but that felt dishonest.
So glad that we found this place on our recent visit to New York over thanksgiving. We had looked at a couple of venues to visit but didn’t want to pay over the top to just sit and have a drink whilst passing through. In here you could pay to sit in main room where the band played if you wanted to, a food menu was also available, or alternatively, should you just wish to sit at the bar and enjoy a drink or two you could still watch and hear the band playing without charge, which ticked every box for us for what we were looking for.The live music was great & there was a really pleasant atmosphere that was warm & welcoming from the moment we entered. For drinks & a chill out it was an all round enjoyable experience!I would most definately recommend & return on our next visit to the city! 5*
Paula is an amazing bar tender! The music is great. We went every night while in nyc.
As a group of 3 it was mentioned a cover charge of $15 per person plus $35 minimum at entry. We incorrect that this was across the group. So we sat down tow enjoy a $60 bottle of wine. The cost was $15 and $35 per person and only clear part way through our night. The way it was delivered was deceptive and not honest. This was disappointing as the Stan Rubin band were wonderful and left a sour taste to the experience and would have easily covered this if it wasnt pressured upon us and the items on the wine list provided were available.
A good place to experience a jazzy night in NYC with more affordable price. Their New York cheese cake is yummy. Only $5 entrance fee.
$10 cover fee but worth every penny. Beautiful blues, a secret getaway from Times Square
If youre looking for a lively and sophisticated night out in the city, then look no further than the jazz swing club with live music and nice interior. From the moment you step inside, youll be transported to another era, where the cool sound of jazz reigns supreme and the atmosphere is electric. The interior of the bar is chic and stylish, with a touch of retro charm that adds to the overall ambiance. Speaking of which, the performers are top-notch, and their repertoire spans a wide range of jazz styles, from classic swing to more contemporary takes on the genre. In terms of drinks, the club has an impressive selection of cocktails, wines, beers, and food, all served by friendly and knowledgeable staff. The prices are reasonable, considering the quality of the drinks and entertainment on offer.Overall, if youre a fan of jazz music and appreciate a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere, then the jazz swing club with live music and nice interior is a must of visit.
Schedule for Michael Hashim in February 2023:Swing 46 with George Gee: 5th, 12th,19th and 26th: Sundays!Swing 46 with Michelle Collier: 3rd, Friday and 11th, Saturday, at 5:30!Swing 46 with Barbara Rosene: 23rd, Thursday.Must watch #michaelhashim , who played with all Jazz giants.Have dinner and listen to authentic Jazz from NYC. I LOVE IT!
“The George Gee Swing Orchestra is borderline professional; you’d think that in New York all musicians are excellent, but not at all… If you’re a true jazz enthusiast, it’s best to avoid this one. The drummer, trombone, alto, and baritone sax players stand out, but the trumpet is a disaster! Sorry… and only one 45-minute set as well…“In short, I won’t be going back!!”
We were not satisfied coming here. They advertise as being a dance-friendly place with swing music at 5:30, but it was only jazz. In addition we asked for a simple Cadillac margarita and were charged $29 each, when a regular margarita is $16. They also added 18% gratuity, $7 for using a credit card, and a $40 cover. The food was decent, but we felt we were taken advantage of. I cannot recommend this establishment.
I had the most amazing time at Swing46 last night! My mom and I stumbled across this cute little spot on Saturday afternoon while we were wandering down restaurant row looking for a place to have dinner the next night. When I saw they have nightly live jazz, swing and rockabilly, I was sold! We came back the next night after taking in a Broadway show and had THE.BEST.TIME! The service was great, the food was delicious and very reasonably priced, the drinks were strong. Most of all the musicians played beautifully! I would highly recommend!!!
Great vibes, a buddy put me on to this place 💯💯
Dont waste your money at Swing 46. GO NEXT DOOR TO DONT TELL MOMA. Swing 46 tries to mandate an 18% tip. Since when do YOU tell me how gd YOUR service is, in advance of any service being delivered??? We were 2 ppl and not only did they charge a 4% CC fee (whats next Swing 46, a Rent Surcharge? Insurance Suurcharge? Cleanibg Fee? Management Fee? ) they tried to FORCE us to pay a tip - for 2 ppl - 18% it was like Mob intimidation. By the way, they explain this as International travelers dont understand USA tip standards. What??? Like in the other review recently, i took care of my server direcrly. He did a gd job. Mgt and Ownnweship- sketchy. Keep ur hands on ur wallet. They are looking to steal ur cash. This is YOUR WORST NYC TOURIST TRAP RIP OFF. FInd somewhere else. Many more fair and better options in NYC
Swing 46 was lots of fun. Just a little speak-easy in lower Manhattan. The seating was pretty comfortable, we stayed there for hours. The band had a great sound and was very entertaining. The wait staff was very attentive. There’s a lot to see visiting New York, so take a little time out of your day to sit down and relax here.
This is a great place in a great area! Swing 46 has a fabulous happy hour with two for one cocktails or wine. They offer a diverse menu with everything from hamburgers to Pasta to steaks and Seafood. Located on 46th Street between 8th and 9th this is a fabulous area to hang out and swing 46 is one of the best! The service is fabulous and everyone who works there is so friendly! They feature great live jazz music every night starting at 5:00 or 5:30 p.m. and Lasting well into the night. For all the tourists out there who read this, get away from Times Square Central and walk down 46th Street between 8th and 9th and duck in to swing 46 for fabulous cocktails, appetizers and entrees all while being entertained with some of New Yorks finest Jazz musicians. Tell Wolfman at the door that Phyllis sent you!
Wonderful food and an amazing atmosphere. We stopped by on a Wednesday night for dinner with a reservation. It wasn’t very busy and we got seated in a little corner booth facing the stage. We didn’t mind the $15 cover because the band was playing! Would definitely come back!
Amazing music and amazing music! I am visiting from LA and Ive always wanted to see a live jazz band. Couldnt be more glad it was here and with the One More Once Big Band!!! Super recommended, a little on pricey side but the music alone makes it worth it.
The waiters are very brazen. We used to be regular guests here, but we wont be coming back here anymore. They wont pour alcohol into your cocktails, and then theyll start scolding you in the truest sense of the word that you took an extra napkin.
Music and dancing was as as before the pandemic. This used to be a regular place for us. But good has definitely gone down in quality. We ordered a salad and when they were out of strawberries they put cocktail cherries on it?! Really. Come back for the music not the food.
Went with my daughter, had a blast. Ron Sunshines 9 piece band was playing. Prices were reasonable, music was fun and danceable, friendly crowd who were dancing as couples.Just one tango. Ill be going back and would feel very comfortable asking for a waltz or foxtrot. These guys clearly know how to play music for dancers.
Pros: great music, lovely place, lively atmosphere. Cons: cover charge and price of the food had me expecting some really tasty fare... but failed to deliver in that department. I ordered a Rigatoni and Shrimp; it came to me like it was swimming in soup rather than the creamy rich garlic sauce it promised to be. The taste was okay but bland. Service, while friendly, was a little slow. For the price, I was expecting better.
We brought my musician brother- and sister-in law here while they were visiting New York. We came early for the opening set and were able to do the fixed price menu. Everyone enjoyed their food, mine was a pasta primavera in a rich and lovely tomato sauce, and the cocktails were especially good. The music was fantastic - a great variety well executed and the few couples on the dance floor were very fun to watch. We didnt get to stay for the full swing dance lesson but it was a nice way to fill intermission. While it is true that the upholstery and bathrooms could use updating, that is really my only complaint. It was a very nice experience in the heart of Midtown!
Great place for music and dance. The staff is great
Great place to perform. Great food and drinks. Very friendly and professional staff. Excellent service.
Fantastic place. Calm and clean environment. Extremely professional and friendly staff. Very generous with the drinks. I may not have been dressed properly for such a nice place(flannel shirt and combat boots)but i was still welcomed just as i would had i been wearing Giorgio Armani. Bravo
Super small neat club/bar to visit while in NYC! Wish I could have stayed longer here! Everyone was soo nice!
The jazz band wasn’t bad, however, our waitress would rarely check on us and our rib eye steak was awful. It was the worst cut and mostly grisel and fat. We told the waitress and she said the owner made no comment. I should have read the reviews. Will never go back. Go to Johnnys and Frankie’s for a well cooked ribeye and great service. You won’t be disappointed!
Such a fun place. When we visit NYC this is our daily nightcap. Watching the dancers and live music sitting at the bar. A great place.
The women at the door were very unprofessional with my husband.
Brought my wife here for her birthday. It was the best date weve ever been on. It can be expensive. Theres a $20 cover to hold your table so you can take swing dancing lessons. The food was above average. Same for the drinks. The reality is you pay for a memorable experience. Absolutely worth it!
Quite overprised. Thirty two fifty dollars per person is impossible. Food about fifty and one glass of wine sixteen and one bottle fifty two seventy. On weekends they charge twenty dollars per person for the music. So count around one hundred at least per perso
Great food and service. Did not get to stay and dance, but people were pouring in the door to cut a rug. The band started and sounded like tons of fun. I will definitely come back to finish a really great experience!
Great spot for fine dinning and live jazz music. They were able to accommodate us without a reservation. The musicians were pros and it felt like I was in a movie scene. The cheese ravioli was among the best I’ve had. They have a wide selection of Italian dishes ($35-$50).They have a few requirements:$10-15 per person for the jazz show.$35 minimum spend per table. The ambience is pleasant. The wait staff were really courteous. However, the guy who answered the phone when I called them was very rude. So I had to take one star off.
Attended for a Holiday party for workI had an excellent time. Work scheduled this for our party. I enjoyed it. Cocktail hour had great options bar staff was fast and accurate. Drinks looked strong. Dinner was good. Nothing noteworthy but well cooked and seasoned. Dessert meh. The show was entertaining actors were very entertaining. Interaction was fun. The one real issue I had was with the coat check! Waited 45 mins in line for my bag which ended up not even in the room but outside and ugh. But a better coat check would be a great improvement
First time at a jazz club in NYC. Great band , great music. Friendly intimate atmosphere.
This place is so shady. What a joke. The food was not good. The mashed potatoes were fake right out of the box. They had a drink menu with specialty drinks to include Patron, We asked for a shot of Patron and the server stated they only had Hornitos. So they advertised drinks without the proper major brand in the house. They were out certain appetizers after we ordered and the service was horrible. I would not recommend or go back and it wasnt picture worthy. Sorry 2 thumbs down!
The service was poor. The music was awesome. The waiter didnt want to give us milk with the coffee!
We traveled to NYC for my sisters thirtieth birthday and this was definitely the highlight of our whole trip. The decor and atmosphere is so vintage rat pack, it is like stepping back in time. The food is pricey, but delicious, the band was a delight and the dancing was so fantastic!!! I will never forget this place
Sunday night has jazz band from 5 to 8 pm , and Latin band from 8 to 11pm. Both play outside. Street closed to traffic, so you dont inhale fumes while eating, and can dance literally on the street by the restaurant. Good food, very attentive service. We will definetely be back!
The band is supposed to take 15 min breaks but we were there for 30 min and there was no music at all. At least we didnt pay the $20 cover charge. Drinks were good but about expensive
The jazz is good but beware of Jose as waiter. I saw him scaring away two Chinese girls but chat often with some Brazilian guests. Also, Jose added 18% tip on the receipt that still showed a line for adding the tip. When I noted that to another bartender, she said thats just the policy they have there.
Live music was good. But beware, they charge you $10 a person to sit and listen when u choose to eat there, and sont tell you up front. Food wasnt bad and they were able to make accomodations for food sensitivities, but waitress was unattentive.
Not a place for swing dancers/Lindy hoppers. Food was bland and far too expensive. We paid the extortionate amount to see the band and have a dance on the tiny dancefloor only to be met with a charge of $15 each for the band - a charge that we were not told about at all (even as this was our second time in there that day). Sat here writing this in utter disappointment.Bar staff and the waiter were great. Very polite and hospitable. Just a shame on the expense and quality of venue and food.
Good place. Good door man. However the bartender Jonathan tried to swindle us for money twice. We thought the first time was an honest mistake ( overcharged by 10$) but then he tried to take 30$ when I gave him a 50$ he said it was his 20$. We told the manager. She counted his till. Then told us she didnt want any problems and gave us 30$ back. Not acceptable. We had been drinking and he seemed to be taking advantage of that. Luckily we only take 50$ dollar bills and break them to get change for tips wherever we go. Beware the bartender here. And keep track of what you give him.
It was fantastic. Wonderful Music, nice people, nice dancers around the stage.
One of the best jazz restaurant in Manhattan for sure.I had a great night today and the musicians were amazing!!! I can’t wait to listen to them again.
The experience was amazing. The orchestra was very good and our waitress Paula was very kind. She took great care of us and helped us with our needs.
Glorious. Never knew this kind of place still existed.Real classic authentic jazz club with live music and drinks and food.
Lively environment, free mini swing lesson, great drinks and food, and excellent staff. The restrooms could use some better attention. An all around nice place to enjoy with family, friends, a date, or even solo. Would return again.
Paula the bartender is so amazing! She served such crafted cocktails that were balanced and had such a great pleasant taste profile! She took her time to find out what we liked and helped make suggestions. We also heard her singing while working and her voice was so beautiful she definitely should sing with the band. I feel it would be a great addition, and a nice surprise. The band was also very good and talented! Will definitely be back!
Love this place for music, drinks, and the occasional dancing. Some of their dinner options are also great.
Loved the band and their music (15$ entry fee). Food and drinks were just average and overpriced for my taste. We went on a Thursday, where they had a free mini dance class for free at around 10 pm. They could work at their decorating, doesnt really carry a jazz and swing flair at the moment.
Scam! Was lured in with the promise of 2 for 1 drinks but only one per person, fair enough still a good deal. Bought an expensive drink each thinking we would get our second free but it turned out to be a scam. The blonde waitress was very rude and hostile and this whole experience dampened our night and its a shame as our experience of other bars in New York had been positive.
Not sure how you have a mozzarella & tomato salad w/o olive oil! The sauces are lacking any flavor — come for the band NOT the food
These people are horrible. The older blonde woman at the door and the younger dark haired guy were 100% trying to take advantage of my 3 friends and myself. We came in to kill time before going to another spot. They ushered us into room with the live music after asking us if a 2 drink minimum was okay, to which we said no and that we would leave. She said that no, one drink was okay. We had our drink, went to pay, and had been charged a $15/person cover charge that we had never been told about. As expected, we were a little upset. We attempted to address it with the lady at the front and she immediately became defensive and told us not to yell at her and that she did tell us. Long story short... they knew we were tourists and all female and tried to take advantage of us. They’re horrible.
The concept was nice but the execution was off. It was something different to do but I wouldnt do the Murder Mystery there again. The appetizers that came with the meal were good but the main course was just ok. I had the steak which I asked for well done and was just a bit more than medium and the potatoes were horrible. It appeared to be boxed mashed potatoes. My friends said the drinks were ok.
I offer sincere thanks to John and his entire staff at Swing 46 for the warm and friendly reception we received last night - the celebration of my wifes birthday could not have been more fun. Everyone in our party of 26 had a swell time and we were surrounded by dozens and dozens of others who seemed just as happy to be there. Our dinners were delicious; tastier still was the music when Felix & the Cats began to play. The happy mix of novice and expert dancers sharing the floor had us all up on our feet and joining in. An absolutely wonderful, friendly place to dine, dance, and enjoy the music.
Great place to meet swing music in NYC. Delicious ribs. Swingadelic are amazing.
Last night @ Swing 46 was an event to remember. Some of the world best Salseros were jamming. This is NYC! Whether you need a place to hang, your a place to hold an event, I would recommend.
Place was horrible. We were crammed in like sardines. It was very loud. And the audience did not participate as much as other places. Some of the actors were over acting.Food was ok...I doubt we would go again. For what we paid for the dinner and show...If you like paying alot to hear screatchy voices and alot of yelling is a great place.
Playing high notes on all aspects! 5 out of 5 for Food, Services, Vibe and Music 🤩
Swing Jazz is a place where every New Yorker should go to. Entrance was $10 per person and we alerted a group of 11, had a great time with drinks, jazz and some dance moves on the floor. Place is open till late night and there were three performances the evening we went to.We were not only greeted by hosts but the Jazz players also stopped by to say hello to us. One of the musicians - Anthony was very friendly and towards the end we all ended up becoming great friends.Definitely a spot where you would like to go on a date or with friends for an evening.Whatever you decide, SwingJazz won’t disappoint.
Stumbled upon this place looking for a late night cocktail with my boyfriend. They were so friendly and served us even though the bar was almost closed. The salsa band played outside as patrons danced in the street. It was fun and wonderful and entertaining. The perfect end to a great day in the city!
If you like Jazz and want to dance, or just sit and enjoy, this is the place.
The Calamari was great! The drinks were also good. A bit strong but good. The band was amazing and the atmosphere was also a nice setting.
Fabulous jazz in a relaxing environment.
Great and attentive service, food is a little pricey for its quality but makes sense considering the location. We went on Saturday night and watched the Swingadelic band play live and also enjoyed watching talented guests dancing - a great way to spend an evening in New York City!
We just got in to a birthday surprise party, we did have reservations we just didnt know under whos name was it. The hostess (blonde older lady) was very unpleasant and rude and very impatient with us, she just wanted us to leave her personal space. Her behavior is so unprofessional and unwelcoming at all. She needs to learn how to work for customer care.
Cool classic jazz bar where people actually dance. The food is ok, drinks ate good, but the atmosphere and vibe of the room is great!
Came to see the Stephen Santoro Orchestra and loved every minute. Great band, music & atmosphere. Food was quite good, but we really came for the show... and it did not disappoint in the least.
We enjoyed the music and the food and the dance lesson but they charged my credit card two times with double tip. This is not correct!
Super entertaining rockabilly Christmas show!
Very swanky bar! Loved the food options and drinks. Service was quick and nice. Would absolutely return! Loved the live music outside.
Great place for live band, fun times, and terrific service. We had an amazing Valentines here! Cant wait to go back!
Ordered calamari...still raw. Prices high for what it is. We left and got the rest of the meal elsewhere. We were looking forward to a night oit with some good music. Shame this wasnt the place.
Great bands and delicious drinks paired with bland food and awful service.Michelle gets respect as she’s friendly and kind. The owner himself, John, is a complete douche bag and I suppose that’s why the staff aren’t friendly.I’ve been going to Swing 46 since 2010 bringing friends, family, and associates to show them a good time, ignoring and putting up with the subpar service I experienced on a handful of occasions. But I drew the line with John’s POS attitude and disrespectful demeanor.Hopefully, one day, Swing 46 will be under new management and John can go and manage a McDonald’s in a ghetto neighborhood. Swing 46 lost this loyal customer
Authentic Swing Dance venue with some incredible bands that come through. Free dance lesson with excellent instructors included with the cover charge. Throwback vibe makes you feel like its the 1930s. Go on a Tuesday or Friday night for the best bands.
Good live big band jazz. I was surprised to come here and see actual jazz music. Usually you get some amateur trying to improv his way through Jamey Aebersold which is great, but to see seasoned players hits the spot. Cool location too.
Really nice jazzy spot. Awesome kitchen. Well worth it!!
Im very happy with this place. Even after decade noting is changing.
NEVER DISSAPPOINTS! I come here every time Im in NY. I love it!! Food is amazing and every band is great!! Highly recommend!
Live jazz and swinging great vibes and outdoor seating
Coat check lady was drunk and lost my $60 umbrella. Assistant Manager was rude and belligerent when I asked for a resolution. Never received a call or resolution from owner as promised. Be careful to review your bill. Waitress tried to scam on tip when we payed 50/50, cash / card.
The food was great and the service was very nice. We had their Prix Fixe dinner, which is a decent deal. The ribs were great and the hangar steak was excellent.
Great Hospitality for an Old School Swing Joint.Service and Menu are of good standard.Host Steven accommodates the customers well throughout the evening. Had a great time and even received a Swing Lesson.
The best place with live jazz music I’ve ever been too ❤️🔥
Our favorite place whenever we are in NYC. Keep live music alive with big band favorites. Comfortable seating. Good food.
Excellent place, great drinks, music and friendly staff! Much recommended!!
This place is great! Came for the music and had dinner. Food was great. Good service and great ambiance. Will be back!
I loved the vibe, the music, the food and the cocktail. I felt like I was in some classic American movie. The best for holiday season. A little swing lesson was also a lot of fun
Had a great night there. Forgot to mention that it was in October 2001 (6 weeks after 9/11). Hope to go again someday.
Fantastic band, our server was wonderful, the cocktails and dessert were delicious! Glad we found this gem late at night. 🥳
My husband and I had an amazing date night. The music was wonderful and the lead singer had a wonderful voice. I will definitely be going back.
Fantastic music by George Gee, who is a regular. Good food, too; the vegan lasagna is a real surprise.
Swing 46 is a wonderfully anachronistic gem that can only be found in a culturally rich city like NYC. The venue boasts a 7 night a week entertainment schedule that is committed to the marriage of music and dance. The staff is cheerful and the bands are swinging. On any given night you can hear the best musicians in NYC and hop on the dance floor or sit and watch the dedicated community of swing dancers mix it up with visiting tourists. I always have a great time here!
Came for the music and dancing. Food OK, drinks and wine list good, music fair with disorganized sets, twice announced dance lessons and nothing. Ordered coffee to go with dessert, and NO COFFEE because its past 11pm. What is this? Nebraska???
Great musicians! The big band was amazing
Cool place with great music. I would recommend.
The place is great!!!!!!!!! People judge the food???????? This is not where you really go out to eat! Yes you can eat there, AND THE FOOD IS NOT BAD, but, YOU GO TO SWING 46 FOR SOME GREAT MUSIC!!!!!!!!! GREAT DANCING, SOME GREAT SHOWMENSHIP TOO!! FANTASTIC TIME!!!!!!!!!! PEOPLE ARE CRAZY TO JUDGE THE FOOD, THIS IS A NIGHT CLUB!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS AN AMAZING PLACE TO BE, THE 20 $ FOR THE BAND? WHY NOT!!!!! THE DRINKS ARE GOOD!!!!!!! SERVICE IS GOOD, YOU GO OUT FOR THE NIGHT??????? THIS IS A PLACE TO BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES I AM GIVING 5 STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS DIAMOND IS THE HEART OF MANHATTAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO THERE AND LEARN HOW TO DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DONT GO THERE FOR DINING, MY BEST, LAURA.
I am just so mad. This place was not what i was expecting, but the worse additionally to over priced x the type of food you get, was the fact that first they charged a plate that they it was not available and then they charged the bill doble So from a 136$ bill we were charged 260$ . Shame on them. I will not recommend this place at all.
Fantastic place. Live quality music every day, very friendly staff, the batwoman makes amazing cocktails and is a joy to talk to, will even make introduction with other guests and be a catalyst in creating positive social atmosphere around - which is the best frame to enjoy the music anyway
Great live jazz music, cocktails, and eats! Really enjoyed dancing to the music. Will absolutely be back in the future!
Was so much fun! Would give 4.5/5 stars if I could! The swing 646 option lets you get an entree, appetizer, and dessert for $55. Drinks are about $14-17. They do charge an automatic %18-19 gratuity, and its $15 per person to sit near the jazz. This plus a bowl of soup made the bill $150.00 for two of us. It is a bit expensive, but its so much fun and definitely worth it! The staff are very friendly and engaging. They did a free class when we went on Thursday night. They were happy to take pictures and interact with the customers in a friendly, supportive, and engaging way. The soup + food was great. The music was excellent. And the atmosphere was super enjoyable! 10/10 would recommend for a date night or NY adventure.
Nice place, good music but limited dancing space. Actually the whole place is kinda small for this kind of entertainment.Though I have to appreciate the effort
Absolutely amazing place, great music and fantastic atmosphere. I havent seen such an amazing mixture of young and old dancers in years. The band was fantastic that night and we were exhausted by the end of the night. Good drinks and great service!
Great atmosphere and live dancing.
Magical place to come back to that old jazz ages. The band is always good the best day is Tuesday when you can use the dancers discount, and be ready to dance all the night long
If you want a show, come on Thursday. Theres always a big band, and if its a good one (it usually is) the dance floor will be packed with the best swing dancers in New York City.
Great live music! They even offered dance lessons between sets on Saturday night. Highly recommend!!!
Normally I would have given this place 5 stars. The service was welcoming and friendly, the music was great, prices were reasonable, and ambience of the venue was warm and old school. What ruined the evening was my husband’s tax exemption card NOT being accepted by the bartender. Keep in mind that it was a federal card - and according to federal law, diplomats are not obligated to pay taxes.Had this happened in a small town I wouldnot have been surprised . But it was shocking in NYC- first time that the tax exemption card wasn’t accepted in our nearly 3 years of living here .
Great jazz band, dancing classes included with dinner... cool place if you like jazz. Food is very expensive and not that great but you are paying for the music not the dinner
Dance classes, great music!! From Chile we loved to be there ❤
This was my pre-pandemic five-star review:Great music, service, food, and drinks. Perfect place for a first date or a fun time in general. Take the dance lesson if you can. Its a good way to meet new dance partners and mingle.Heres my one star review in 2022.I have been a patron of Swing 46 since the 90s but was saddened to find how the club is being run these days. When I called to ask about the time of the dance lessons that I love so much, the person answering the phone said they have them no more. He exclaimed that this is because Dance lessons are stupid! I asked if I could share with him why a long-time patron felt otherwise. He said, No! Dance lessons are stupid! Go somewhere else for dance lessons! He then told me other places to go rather than Swing 46. Very sad.If a Swing 46 owner is reading this and wants to know why the lessons were amazing, heres why. It was a fantastic way for me to introduce those new to this music about this music. It helped people get to know one another in a non-threatening way which is often hard for the ladies. It was a fun way to build comradery and mingle. Im sad to take the business of myself and my numerous friends elsewhere. If lessons ever come back, please reply to this review and let me know.
Fun play with nightly swing dance lesson at 9ish. $15 charge for band in back bar and 2 drink minimum makes it an expensive evening. Mostly tourists here.
Great atmosphere and food. Great jazz bands and swing. Dancing and dining. No more COVID hassles NYC is back.
Service is painstakingly slow, we were never offered a table in the room with the music. Not sure if you need tickets, or reservations….? One drink and we left. Will not return.
Best place to hear classics and dance yourself silly. The Wednesday night band is a special treat.
This place was incredible!! Paula was AMAZING. So friendly and a gorgeous voice. MORE PAULA!
I loved the atmosphere, I loved dancing swing and listening to one of the best Big Bands in the world. George Gee Orchestra. Amazing place for swing lovers!
Great salsa Sunday celebrating my cousins Bday. Delicious food wonderful environment. Great service and friendly place.
Terrific swing music! Enjoyed the atmosphere as well. Highly recommended
Friendly and amazing jazz bar. Stan Rubin orchestra is fascinating!
Magical experience, great food, great drinks, and the music? Now thats the where the magic comes in! Fantastic experience on Salsa Night and ill definitely be coming back!
Good food, drinks, but mainly, the music is the best in town- and the cover is good.. and you can learn to swing dance!! Lots of fun!
A great place for a late night drink and a dance!A really nice place that we enjoyed spending time in having a drink after a long day of exploring!
Didnt have the food, but the band, the atmosphere and Paula the bartender were all amazing!
Live swing band was good, and service was okay once someone noticed our arrival. Others couples attended to and seated promptly.
I wanted to love this place. Dance floor was decent sized but not huge. The band was great. The cover charge to me was a bit much though. I would have preferred to have to had ordered €20 worth of drinks. The actual bar is in the front of the place. Then you enter the restaurant which seemed to be upscalish. The dance floor came next and then the stage. Theres a disco ball and mirrors which give it a certain feel. Location is good in sense its close to times square, but that added stress to find parking... Didnt eat, only danced. Also in opinion it started too late. It started either 9 or 930pm.
Amazing live music. Fun atmosphere. Got to do free dance class on a Saturday night between sets. Go here for music and fun, not for great drinks or a culinary experience. Perfect for after dinner.
Was 5 star. Slipping, why? Not too welcoming. Strange vibes from emoyees. But if going later with show, a great date place!
I wanted to visit some jazz club in NYC. This one was great. Nice people inside and also music
My wife and I had A great time, friendly atmosphere, delicious food, an awesome band and swing dance fun. Well be back!
Very unprofessional!! Food is over priced and not good!! Allow to much drunk people in to ruin the atmosphere! I would not ever come again or recommend this place!!!
Music was lovely great place to enjoy good food and drinks. Best time is after 9pm.
Great jazz supper club! Good food and drink but the main reason to be here is the incredible musicians!
Great food, great music, only downside are prices, but not enough to dissuade me from wanting to come again
Came here for the first time with a friend the bartender was so friendly and cool and drinks and music and vibe are so good. Will definitely be back
The Angus steak was to die for. Cooked to perfection, and the mash Potatoes were so creamy. I must to dine when in the area.
No way will I eat there again food wasn’t all that great we all got our food beside my son witch was only nachos with chicken took a while for him to get his food the waitress was tipsy the pricing was ridiculous I payed 218 for just 6 things mind you I could of went to a pizza place but wanted something new never again the chocolate cake taste like charcoal overall never again
Nice atmosphere!. Great time with friends and family.
The band 🎶 and vibe was great! But besides the ticket, they require to buy min 35$ food/drinks per person. Unfortunately that department is very basic, cocktails were below the average and coconut shrimp was overcooked.
Had such a great time live band and everything was really good
Their shows are amazing. Food is ok, drinks are also ok. At least, personnel is nice. Worth going
It was fantastic. I wanna go to there again
We stopped in for drinks before going to dinner. It was nice.
Lovely time. Lovely crowd. Lovely staff
Fun place and delicious food. Expected more jazz though
A good fun night for all the family. Its a bit expensive to sit in the main restaurant but you do get to enjoy the show properly. Food is not too bad but nothing to write home about.
Entertainment is 10 stars. But food was just good.
Great food and entertainment. The waiters dont pester you when your enjoying the show
Always loved it here. Great music great fun. Lots of dancing. Like stepping back in time.
To be around musicians is a healthy way of life especially after playing drums for 60 years Im gonna play there soon to keep everybody happy thanks SWING 46
A great place to relax and listen to a variety of Jazz music while you enjoy a delicious meal,of your choice.
Incredible music and lively dancing environment. Food is excellent and great service!
Beautiful music, excellent food and the professional staff serves the customers in greater way. You dont regret coming here to listen to the best classic Jazz
Unfortunately, the staff is rude, you cant drink at the counter if you have a table.... To conclude, they purposely made me pay for a dessert and showed it to me. Too bad I asked if it was included off the menu and I was told yes, all included. In the end we asked for the bill and he and charged for every single dish... If you go there, be careful, they are skilled at scamming. Ultimately the band sounded good
Super dimly lit and just the absolute perfect place for some live jazz. Sip a Manhatten and enjoy!
