Highly recommended. This is a wonderful Spanish tapas restaurant with a balance of bar dining and table service. Theres actually two decent sized bars (front and back) plus high top tables and standard seating. The food was fresh but also came out quickly, and all the dishes were excellent. Best of all, the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Well be returning.

Interesting place. Food was good, but not great. What it lacked culinary, it made up with in atmosphere, decor, and amazing white Sangria. The restaurant is loud during peak eating hours, so not the best place for a first date, but definitely a good place to meet friends youre already comfortable with

Delicious shared plates. My friend and I had Croquetas, Gambas al Ajillo, Albóndigas, Pan con Tomate, and Brocheta de Gamba - Champiñón. It was all great! Theres a bar area in the front, but in the back by the tables there is a small stage where two guitarists and a dancer performed. It was very entertaining - they were so talented. At times the music was a bit loud, but we were seated directly next to the stage. Great service and nice location near subway stations.

I came here for a celebration with my husband and we had an amazing time. We started at the bar where we had some happy hour Dates wrapped in bacon delicious, though I usually prefer cheese to almonds in the middle. The sangria was great - not too sweet and a generous helping of fruit. The arroz (pictured) was so delicious. There were few veggie plates and nothing for vegans. The Monday-night Flamenco show was incredible. I highly recommend and will be returning soon.

Great tapas. My girlfriend had a good red wine while I had a spicy margarita that was phenomenal. Atmosphere was quiet.Only downside was that, while the service at the beginning was good, at the end of the meal we had difficulty getting our check, and it felt like they basically forgot we were there. We probably could have left without paying the bill and nobody would have been the wiser.

We came here on a Friday evening and were seated immediately, which was pleasant. The service was attentive, the drinks were good. The shrimp in olive oil was great, and was made so much better with their bread. We had also ordered the albondigas and a Spanish omelette, out of which we liked the albondigas but the omelette was a little dry for our liking. Overall, it was a good meal.

Went for a friends birthday dinner. I loved everything we got. On the pricy side, but it was worth it. We were a big group, they were happy to accommodate us all. We ordered way too much than we can eat, so keep an eye on what everyone else is ordering for the table. The servers and the manager also sang along Happy Birthday when they brought the desserts with candles on them.

This place is nothing short of amazing!Whether you’re sitting bar style, accompanied by Jacob (who might I add, has been with the establishment for 11yrs and is absolute joy to converse with) or at a table, the service is superior. This Spaniard, Mediterranean feel is the perfect setting for either a intimate work/play combo. At happy hour or dinner, this place is bumping. However, you can catch a more mellow vibe during your lunch time if you prefer.

Food and service is consistently good, despite this weve never had a problem getting a table even on a Friday or Saturday night. Fiance and I did New Years Eve here and it was a really awesome, intimate experience. It wasnt terribly expensive, they served their regular menu, and the owner came out and threw lots of party favors at the patrons as it got closer to midnight. Lots of sangria and poppers without the mess of times square made for a pretty memorable night :)

We called Sat. lunch time asking about reservations for that evening after 5pm; they said earliest opening was 9:30 but we could walk in. We arrived at 4:45 and only 3 tables occupied with 2 people at the bar. We told the host we had no reservations and we were seated at the high tables across from the bar instead of a normal table. We ate dinner (paella, $48, tasted great but portion was not enough for 2) and left by 6. Only 5-6 tables occupied but bar was full (where were all the reservations they told us about on the phone??). I think they put all people w/o reservations at the bar area regardless of how empty the rest of the place is. It was a bit annoying because our table was so small it could barely fit all the plates, glasses, utensils.

Now this is what we call authentic Spanish food! A beautifully set restaurant with amazing service, incredible food and great wine list! Carlos our waiter was turning this visit into a holistic experience! We started with the scallops which were cooked by perfection, followed by grilled artichokes with bacon. Followed by Ibérica Jambon with Manchego cheese and pork cheeks that are melting in your mouth like butter. All that accompanied with a beautiful 2014 SVMMA VARIETALIS. We were two adults with 2 kids (11 & 13) who asked me this morning if we could go back there tomorrow as their hangar steaks are awesome and amazing portion! Keep on going this way, you make a lot of people happy !

Probably the best place Ive eaten at in NYC. Incredible dishes all around and ample serving sizes. But the star of the show was definitely the genuine Spanish hospitality from Iñaki and David in particular. Over and beyond the call of duty and going the extra mile to the max! Food wise, would suggest the clams with the short noodles, mussels and the fillet mignon on bread, so delicious! The chocolate molten cake was to die for. Well be back for the paella soon enough!

Although this place is not authentic Spanish, the dishes are edible. I had setas, which were good but the paella did not have authentic zafran taste or much taste for that matter. Tapas in Spain are free with every drink but at this place you must pay, which us fine...just dont call them tapas. The white sangria was not impressive at all, it was rather weak. I will not be returning.

Review №33

One of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. The host in charge two Friday nights ago did not demonstrate good customer service from the beginning.I ordered the croquettes with ham. I took one bite and couldn’t taste the ham. I asked a worker if I received a wrong order and he said they make large batches, so sometimes some of them don’t have the ham?? He pointed out a speck of ham in another one of the croquettes. He told me I could return it and that’s what I did. I ordered a red sangria, which was watered down. When I mentioned it to the waiter she just said oh sometimes it comes like that because its made in large quantities. After I sat down and waited a while I had to remind the waiter to get me the menu, and ask for the bread for the table. I didn’t complain about that, I let it go. When it was time to order I knew what I wanted to order because I checked the menu before arriving from yelp on grub hub which said paella for 2 $24. I glanced at the menu to double check this is what I wanted and placed my order. The waiter said this plate is meant for two and it’s very large. I told her its fine I’ll just save the leftovers for next day. She did not mention anything specific about the price. When the paella arrived it didn’t seem that large for 2 people to share. Upon taking two bites I noticed it was very salty. I was so hungry and I waited so long for this dish I didn’t mention it and just ate 3/4 of it. I also noticed the paella was a bit dry and stuck/burnt a bit to the bottom of the plate. When it was time to pay I reviewed my receipt and it stated $48 for the paella. I was shocked. I figured it was definitely a mistake since the menu did not say the paella is $48. I told the waiter and she immediately protested that she had clearly explained that 1 order of paella is 24 and 2 orders must be made, which she did not. She said the menu clearly explains this. I reasoned why would the menu say paella is 24 if you cannot order one serving. She said oh that’s if people want to place more than two orders, but it’s an odd number?? This is the most ridiculous explanation. I was polite and tried to reason with her but she did nothing to help. The waiter just left me there. She did not say lets see what I can do or let me get the manager to work out something to reach a compromise. Most restaurants want to try to make sure the customer leaves feeling heard and well taken care of. I waited for a manager to come to sort it out and negotiate something because I was misled by the wording of the menu and the waiter was not explicit about the price. After waiting awhile I was surprised no one came to resolve this and I needed to leave. The host had walked by the table several times and did not look at me or say anything. I left cash on the table covering what I ordered, including, tax and tip minus the $24 which I felt I should not have been charged since the menu and waiter were not explicit about the price and left. Seconds after exiting the manager chased me down telling me I needed to pay the rest of the fee for the paella. He did not let me explain and said his waiter was very clear about the price, and the menu is very clear (Sure it was). And threw in my face the he took care of me because he didn’t charge me for the croquettes that I did not eat? This is customary at a restaurant. If the food does not meet your level of satisfaction you are allowed to send it back. He acted as if he did me a favor. He then made comments that gave me the impression he held a particular bias against me and was making assumptions about me, which could have been racist since I am a minority. Comments like I knew what was going on, we were watching you, do you always leave restaurants without paying the bill? He threatened to call the police. I made the decision to pay the full bill, left no tip and will never eat here again. To top it off not only was the paella not good, but I got sick within 20 minutes of leaving and went to the bathroom 3 times that same evening.Save your money & go to another restaurant.

The portions seem to have shrunk (in some cases significantly) and the quality is diminished. Example: The setas (once one of the better items on the menu) used to come in portions of 3 or 4 large, delicious, garlic-y and mushroom-y bread slices - Now the portion was 2 rather dried out bits. Pretty sure the asparagus portion was smaller as well. Still probably worth the occasional trip but now its average at best.

This was a big mistake though, as the Bloody Mary was ordinary and cost $14. It wasnt even mentioned on the menu, nor was vodka. It was a very long wait to ever talk to waitstaff and they sometimes doubled up, visiting a minute after their colleague had already visited. All the drinks had ice but our table had no coasters or even napkins, so the condensation spread onto my phone then dripped down onto my outfit. It put me in a nihilistic mood that was more consistent with that of the waitstaff.

I ordered the chicken, rice and eggs and it was inedible. The rice was hard and the chicken was just bones. They took back my order and said they’d order something else for me. I ordered the burger medium and it was so rare the meat was falling off the knife. For the price the brunch is great for the drinks but not the food.

Happy Hour is only from 5 - 7pm, but if you can grab a spot by the bar, the 2 for one wine and sagrias are worth it! The bacon-wrapped dates and Spanish tortillas are some of the best in the city. Great for a small group or after-work happy hour.

My wife and I found this restaurant several years ago on one of our sightseeing walks in Manhattan. The food is excellent and authentic, and atmosphere is lively and energetic, yet romantic enough for a couple on a date. We now go to Sala everytime we visit NYC.

I have been in this place like 3 or 4 times, and I must say that the food is good, everything has a delicious flavour, soft as the taste of spanish food.I use to have the pepito and is really good, maybe small, but taste amazing. Also if you want to try a good paella in NY, I must say that this one is rally good (minimum for 2 people).

Maybe we caught them on an off day, but we were totally underwhelmed for a place that charged so much. The paella was very dry and the seafood didn’t taste fresh, and for $40 a pitcher, the sangria was extremely disappointing. Two stars only because the croquetas and chorizos fritos were delicious, not to mention, the lovely ambiance.

Was invited to sala one nine for a friends bday dinner and decided to go only because she kept Raving about how amazing this intimate tapas restaurant is. Disclaimer: I take birthday dinners very seriously. Running 15 minutes late, I finally arrive and walked through a long red velvet curtain. Voila, people - all over! I mean this is great for business, I just didnt expect such a vibrant crowd for an intimate location. Its a two part restaurant- the entrance seats a handful of people- a few seating tables and one of 2 bars. I already knew where my party was and took a deep breath of relief when I realized this place is not small at all! Maybe they prefer it this way to surprise you. After all you dont expect romance right away. Although minimal lighting surrounds the entire restaurant this section is much larger. Rustic wooden walls and floors make you feel warm and cozy not to mention their sexy lanterns decor their ceilings. It wasnt long before I met my party, especially after noticing all the wine glasses and food platters floating left and right. The minute I sat down the waiter introduced himself and poured me a glass of wine- attentiveness at its best! We ordered a combination of their rations and entrees so we could all have a little bit of everything. I was introduced to their almond stuffed date surrounded by sweet glazed bacon. I wanted more! If youre craving seafood, Gambas Al Ajillo brings seared shrimps swimming in pure deliciousness garlic oil. Ask for as much bread as youd like because this is one sizzling oil youre going to keep dipping in. If you like to spice up your dishes make sure you order their spicy red pepper sauce , is a warm spicy tomato sauce that is also found in their Patatas Bravas, if you like potatoes youll love this side. Who wouldnt want drenched potatoes in a yummy sauce. The truth is Sala one nine will be seeing more and more of me. See you soon!
